Covid and travel discussion

You don’t need 16 tests - just the 3 per person so I think it’s more realistically:

1 x PCR outbound = £43 with Randox using discount code

1 x local antigen test = €30 with synlabs

1 x PCR day 2 after arrival home = £43 with Randox using discount code

= £113 per person

= £452 total for a family of 4
thanks for the info.

Both kids need all the tests.

I'd be interested to know how and where I could get 16 tests done for £300
As @davealvers post but I think you can do it slightly cheaper by doing antigen on the way out but obviously you would have to check my understanding is correct that they are allowed, that would get it to sub 400.

My kids are 4 and 8, tests we are looking at are about 285 total for the Algarve. When we go to Madeira in 2 weeks it will cost us £129 total for all necessary tests. I've saved considerably more than that on the flights alone.

Im not sure and thats the crux of the matter for us.
Just happened to my son and his wife in Portugal. Due to fly back to London last Wednesday 7th so they go for their Antigen tests on Monday to return to the UK and both test positive. Off they go for a PCR later that day - 2 positive results returned again (my son is doubled jabbed - so wondered if first test was a false positive). the abcense of clear information of what a positive test means/ what you need to do is staggering - so little out there.

24 hours later Portuguese Public Health ask for their details and a GP calls the next day to say - 10 days isolation but they can stay in their accommodation (so no quarantine in Govt hotel) - but no advice on how to source food etc.

GP confirms that they will issue a fit to fly certificate on the 14th July but doesn’t say how and the GP contact numbers are ringing out- so still not clear on how this will be issued or even when -so can’t book flights home.

On returning to the UK Track and Trace confirm it a 10 Day isolation with PCR tests on day 2 and 8 - even if the tests are negative it’s still 10 days in isolation. Only way to shorten isolation is to do the 5 day test release PCR test - getting a negative result(btw after you’ve had COVID you are advised not to get a test for 90 days as you can still post a positive result) - so day 5 test is a total gamble In this scenario.

just to compound matters - My Son was on Flight 12 back from Porto - safe to say he won’t be rushing back to Portugal!

Jesus this is the risk isnt it. No matter how small the risk if you test a positive the shit that follows is a nightmare.
ive said all along that its a head/heart battle. And the heads way in front. Stories like yours are only cementing my decision that greece will be there next year …

Absolutely Marcus - our holiday to the Dominican was cancelled last week - so started to look at the ’Green Balearics‘ instead as an option - favourite hotel available, flights dirt cheap - then this happens with our Son and as I understand it we’d have been in exactly the same situation if we tested positive abroad - only slight variation is no quarantine after 19th as we are both double jabbed.

This summer feels far worse than last ( when we did get to Majorca).

Most definitely ‘head not heart’ this year

Doesn't the red list get updated again on Thursday?

Be a hazard to book a holiday now and find the destination goes red on Thursday

So we have our transport minister proudly proclaiming that 30 odd countries will accept brits double jabbed with vaccines made in the Uk, Europe and India but won’t be allowing the same unless they have been vaccinated in the uk so my relatives who live in France and have both had AZ double jabbed have to isolate for the full 10 if they travel over even if on UK passports. Ran by fucking donkeys fuelled by arrogance.
