Covid and travel discussion

Just in the process of booking Disneyland Paris for next year. Can't wait to see the kids' little faces when they find out. Going to surprise them with tickets or something on Christmas day.

Have you been before?

If you need any tips, just give me a shout. As a family, we are Disney freaks. We went twice in the last couple of months (15 times in total) and have stayed at all the hotels. We also have loads of videos on our YouTube channel and are in the process of editing some more.

Anyway, hope you and the kids enjoy the trip. That's a great Christmas present.

Ah that's great. We haven't been before so any tips would be much appreciated.

I've only booked flights and going on a Monday evening to Friday morning.

Ping me a link to your YouTube and I'll check that out too

You've made a good decision straight away with Monday-Friday: although Disneyland Paris can never be described as "quiet" there are certainly times when it's quieter than others. Saturday lunch to Sunday tea, it's usually absolutely rammed.

We used to get the Eurostar (brother-in-law used to live in Kent so it was easy for us to get to Ashford station) but the last three times we've flown with EasyJet and got a taxi from Charles De Gaulle airport. It's about 80-90 Euros each way and takes about 40 mins (depending on traffic).

Here's my YouTube Channel "Rob on Holiday". We've got Five videos from our September visit (including the New York Art of Marvel Hotel). Over the next few weeks, we'll be uploading others including the Hotel Cheyenne and a "Disneyland Paris 101" for new visitors. We tend to do 5-10 minute videos each focusing on specific subject rather than big hour long videos - nice chunks that are easily digestable!

Anyway, send me a PM if you need any hotel tips.

Are people looking ahead to 2023 already?

Easyjet Holidays have just released their initial summer 2023 package programme today, on the back of Jet2 and TUI doing likewise within the last couple of weeks.
With relatively low deposits, it's tough not to get seduced by some very competitive prices, despite it being so far away.

Myself and a couple of mates have just booked a TUI hotel only (below) for September 2023 in Kos. The countdown begins!

Yep. The Florida holiday we booked and paid for with Virgin for April 2020
- then bumped back to July 2020 (we thought COVID might all be over by then!)
- then bumped back to Christmas 2022 (might be a bit busy in WDW)
- and just today decided to finally shove back to June 2023

Plenty of holidays before then though!

out of interest what's made you put it back so far, we are considering Orlando at some point in 2022 as we've got 6 free nights at Disney parks / a Disney hotel to use, I can use it anytime though.

Barbados booked for 16 nights from Jan 21st. Off to watch the T20's in the party stand. Whilst flights were cheap at £600 each with Virgin, accommodation isn't! Never do package so sourcing our own. Used to Goa prices!

We’re there mid March and will now get a couple of days at the second test, we booked ages ago, 11 nights hotel right on Dover beach, Virgin Flight for £2300 all in, couldn’t book a flight for under 2k per person at moment never mind accommodation so for once we’ve struck lucky but the city fan in me is expecting Virgin to cancel for some reason and price gouge the shit out of a rebooking.

Hope the curfew is eased when you get there mate.

In short: COVID, though not for the reasons you may think.

Before the pandemic, we had this holiday booked for 2020 and then paid out £2,500 for TUI flights for Florida the next year (2021). We usually book holidays far in advance and generally have a few foreign trips a year, so the cancellations due to the pandemic meant we had so many things on hold that we had to start pushing things further out.

Since then, TUI have decided to stop flying to Orlando (they fly to Melbourne now) and we didn't really fancy that and all the extra hassle so we converted our TUI flights to a European holiday with TUI ...... which meant that we were now chock-a-block for 2022 so why not have an expensive holiday to look forward to for 2023? Virgin will have had a big wedge of our cash for 3 years by the time we go, but they have been good letting s move it around several times for free.

I'm sure travel to the US will be fine in summer 2022, but flying all that way for a 7-night holiday over Christmas at Disney didn't seem like a great idea in the current climate.

Hope all that makes sense!

Yeah makes sense, I'd seen your earlier post about being Disney Freaks and was worried there may have been something Disney related putting you off. We're not sure whether to go at Christmas or earlier, still trying to persuade the missus to do 3 weeks in total.

I hadn't noticed the Tui flights were in to Melbourne i'll give them a miss. Aer Lingus have some really good price at the minute.
