We’d be better served getting U.K. PLC going again and all spending our money over here. They may not mean taking a 2 week break in a wet and miserable U.K. seaside town, but getting out and doing days out, more trips to pubs and restaurants, more spending on the high street, zoos, theme parks, etc.

The government can use the tax and VAT receipts from all of that to prop up the travel industry until next year.

The problem with this kind of approach is it doesn't prepare us to transition to the 'new world' that we are going to live in. Coronavirus isn't going to go away globally this year, think this time next year and even then that will be when much of the world is vaccinated so it won't necessarily go away but it shouldn't be a threat.

What we need to do is to get away from this obsession over case numbers. We still haven't heard about what will happen if cases rise again, will we lockdown or will we hold our ground on the basis that hospitalisations will not follow or will remain manageable? There's still an expectation that everyone in the UK will be vaccinated by the time holidays can even happen so I don't see the threat unless we are worried about the vaccines effectiveness due to variants.

Even if variants become prevalent elsewhere then they will end up here eventually. It's a ridiculous idea to suggest otherwise because foreign holidays aside the borders are still happen and there are still hundreds of flights per day. It's illegal for us to travel out but it isn't illegal for people to come in and that makes it utterly pointless.

I really don't see the problem with travel to safe countries whilst staying in a COVID safe resort for example. Even the USA will look a very good prospect in a few months. The major problem for many holidays is Europe.

Normally do a lads mini break abroad for World/Euros, last time we went to Riga this time we've got a chalet in Anglesey penciled in via a friend of one of us that's going.

By the time we've paid for it (mates rates to a fashion), car hire fuel, beer, food etc it'll work out considerably more expensive than a short euro break but, it is what it is the main downer is our ex-pat in Denmark won't be able to join us.

There were times you could buy an entire village for that and I think there is one near deserted village in southern Italy where the properties are/were going for €1.00 each.
