Covid and travel discussion

I take these Statements with a pinch of salt
Each day a different " expert" says somet else
Two week's ago we weren't going to get vaccine passports last week that was on the cards
Turkey,Greece & others are willing to open their arms to us Brits
Bottom line is no one has a clue what is round the corner
What will be will be

Is the correct answer.

12th April is when we may get further guidance and clarification on international travel.

What is seemingly quite apparent is that a number of European countries are throwing admiring glances our way, and fluttering their tourism eyelashes.

What the government really needs to do, and I know the ever changing landscape and data doesn't make things easy, is we need to have some agreements in place with these countries that are very happy to accept us, whereby people can book and travel as confidently as possible without issues at either end.

Having the whole travel corridor charade again this summer will ruin the industry and destroy what little consumer confidence we cling onto.

The alternative is they outlaw non-essential travel for the summer or indeed the rest of the year...but if they do that they absolutely have to prop up the travel industry.

We've had no sector specific help throughout this, and if they deem travel unsafe for another summer then you can kiss goodbye to hundreds of companies and tens of thousands of jobs.

I'm very much 50/50 on whether 12th April will bring positive or negative news, but in some respects I don't care too much as long as we get some news and not the usual hot air bollocks from pricks like Shapps.

Exactly. Headline on sky “foreign holidays unlikely”. Read below the headline and its “foreign holidays unlikely... on may 17th when initial ban supposed to be lifted”.

Doesnt mean there wont be foreign hold in aug!

Totally agree but the issue before too long will probably be big airlines potentially going bust and potentially no planes to take people away.
The whole industry has been on its knees for over a year.

Essential they prop the industry up if they pull the plug.

if they do, I’m going to head to London for a week. Daughter never been and it would be nice to do the touristy stuff with her but at a slower pace. I reckon there will be some good hotel deals this year.

Airlines reckon 3-4 years before they're back to normal, they should know so it looks like every man and his dog are staycationing for the forseeable.

ermmmm, just booked Tenerife flights in November, well i supose they could be put back to the following May or refunded, i did hear on the news that it was unlikely this summer and not this year as the OP stated, then again the canaries could be excluded from mainland EU

Ban travel until next year, it's the only way, get some much needed money spent in the uk, then all being well next year get away
Yes spend your hard earned cash on a trip to Blackpool, lovely hotel with mushrooms growing in the communal bog, a lively little bed and breakfast with a knocking shop next door and DWP scallies on the other side, pissed stained matress and fungai in the shower at no extra cost

I think the UK staycation/domestic holiday market is gonna get a massive boost this summer by default anyway, I don't think that particular area needs any encouragement.

So many are still not going to entertain the idea of international travel until at least 2022, such is their right to do so, and that should see plenty of cash being splashed about in the UK holiday sector.

I think what some people fail to see (not you, just generally) is that international tourism supports hundreds of thousands of jobs, directly or indirectly, in the UK.

Everything from high street agents, tour operators, airlines, foreign exchange....right through to the person patting you down at security in the airport; these people's livelihoods are reliant on the return of travel.

The government have, so far, shown no inclination to support the industry beyond the benefits that all sectors can claim.

I see alot of people wanting international travel essentially outlawed for the rest of the year, but I don't see the same people showing any concern for the jobs that would cost, not so much as even a passing comment on how the industry would survive if it was shelved for 2021.

People just lazily saying 'ban travel until 2022 when it can return', it really isn't as straightforward as that unless the government intervenes and props us up. As already stated they haven't offered us anything in a year of turmoil and it seems we're not even on their agenda at all.

International Travel will be back this year to selective countries and each will have their own criteria for acceptance. I believe Cyprus are opening up in May and as of today there will be no restrictions or checks if the travelers have had both vaccinations. However it's early days and we shall only book and then immediately travel within a small time frame window, IE a few days so we can best evaluate risk. Any country cases under 16 per 100,000 would be deemed acceptable.
