COVID drinking.....

Anyone succumbed yet?

I’ve just eyed up a bottle of Peroni whilst making myself a butty, but managed to close fridge again without grabbing it. Can wait until after walking dog.
I haven't even got out of bed, hmmmmmmmm, I guess I must try harder

Two bottles of aspalls/peroni and a bottle of shiraz or merlot every day, sometimes a few whisky chasers to complete the ensemble. Get up about 8, coffee in garden and plan out what gardening/diy to do. I have pretty much made the back of the house look very presentable, i mean outside the back gate as it is a communal area, grassed, but a dead end so lends it's self to being a genuine communal area, we all go out and have a beer or whatnot in the afternoon into the evening now, social distancing observed!

Got the perfect excuse to have a few drinks as i am taking the outhouse down and building a patio with brick pizza oven and bbq area. Do that until about 2-3 when people start to creep out and i can hear the glug of wine/gin etc being poured swiftly followed by the lass 3 doors down declaring it's "gin o'clock" as she settles to observe my days work. I wind down then and crack open a bottle, get the bbq on and cook for us all.

The bloke next door brews his own and it is bloody nice so non of us go in sober of an evening. Got to put some posts in tomorrow so we can attach a basic awning across the entire rear area, it is all very civil and agreeable. The perfect project to take up time with a tangible result everyone can enjoy.
When this is over you will be able to host the Blue Moon garden party.

I started this ‘lockdown’ process off with the laughingly ambitious aspiration of not drinking for the month of April, which I’ve failed to achieve (obvs) but last ‘weekend’ (Thurs to Sat) apart, I’ve been pretty good. That weekend apart (which I thoroughly enjoyed btw) I’ve had alternate days on the wagon at the very least and even last Thurs to Sat wasn’t a classic bender, as I was sober for most of the time I was awake. I genuinely love those ‘lost weekends’.

Drinking less beer and malt, but more (red)wine. Not drinking in the day (except last Thursday). Exercising more too.

Most of my mates have greatly increased their alcohol intake, but I’ve definitely reduced mine. Tbf, last time I got my liver checked out it was in good working order, but I’m conscious I can’t rely upon that with a free pass forever.

I’m definitely a low-level, functioning alcoholic, and I’m pretty sure my alcohol consumption will foreshortened my life, which I’m fairly cool with, but I’m certainly not ready to go just yet, and now I’m 50 I know I’ve got to cut down considerably I’m going to avoid that - and my body won’t care if there’s a pandemic and associated lockdown if I push it too far. I also want to be as fit as I reasonably can should I catch Covid-19 (assuming I haven’t already)

Looking at an unopened bottle of red right now, but I’m not going to touch it until Wednesday at the earliest.

Probably.
Carry on regardless(as they say)

I like reading your drunken Duncan postings mate; )

I have recently done my back in (haven't a clue how it happened) and was taken to A&E on Sunday 5th April. given a quick examination by the doctor and discharged within 2 hours and told to get plenty of rest and a prescription for 8 Valium tablets.
And on the box of Valium - no alcohol.
Collected the Valium on Monday 6th April and prepared for my 1st night without alcohol since September 1993.
Due to work issues and financial worries I had become dependent on having a minimum of a bottle of red wine each and every night, and often having a bottle of strong (7%) beer as well.
Anyway I slept like a baby last Monday night and then did another 3 nights alcohol free as well. No problem sleeping and felt fine each morning.
Had a bottle of vino on Friday and Saturday night as it was weekend and then went alcohol free for the last 2 nights.
So after 27 years I have gone from a minimum of 60+ units of alcohol to a more moderate 18/20 units per week, wihich I think is within government guidelines. I am just hoping that I can continue along this less inebriated pathway.
My liver (as well as my bank balance) think that they are on holiday.
