Not everyone agrees that you should use registry cleaners at all. You might want to read this first: http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000643.html At the end of the day its your shout obviously and if you back your registry up before using the prog you should be fine.

Bad idea that a piece of software should decide for you what is and what isn't bad for your registry. Every machine is configured differently in terms of hardware and software installed. It is impossible for any application to know what is best for every system out there so unless your familiar with regedit then stay clear of stuff like that

Used to use ccleaner before I ditched windows, can make a small difference to speed (bizzare the way windows slows down with use - like a clapped out car) and does occasionally sort problems, never known it to cause a problem.

It's not bizarre that Windows slows down with usuage, why would it be. Everything you do on your pc is UI based (User Interface), the magic is in the Registry. Think of it like a soup, the more ingredients you add in then the thicker it will become. This is like the Registry database, the more info it has to sift through the longer it takes the OS to find a particular file, what to do with it etc. As people install shit software (freebies off the net, kids games on cereal packets etc) then stop using them because they are crap all they are doing is adding to the Registry and slowing the pc down (defrag helps but thats another story). Then users uninstall and think it's gone, it isn't. Reg Cleaners help, but I wouldn't recommend using them unless you are prepared for shit to happen to your pc because it might.

I'd use Linuckz instead of Windows but I dont have a ginger beard, or wear cordroy trousers and I have friends.

HA HA no beard or cords here, just an old laptop that runs twice as fast as it did a few months ago and will continue to do so as it doesn't have a 'magic' registry to get clogged up or a file system which fragments.
