Mental and physical health is behind it.
Maybe during Covid bubbles, but the system worked since the 70s.

My feeling is that these one day specialists want to play in the IPL. Why wouldn’t they for the bucks on offer there.

They don’t moan about the mental health during those months away…

Their bowling attack is far better than ours.

It is over there on dry and hard wickets
I don't see the England coaches saying the ground staff at all the grounds to make it suit them ?

The thing with the ashes in England is 1 or 2 of their batsman always score big runs to help them set up a score
then England are chasing the game, we need to get on top of them straight away, show them who's boss like they did in the last ashes

get archer or wood bowling around 90mph, then we will have a very good chance

We’ll have a dilemma. Curate good wickets so our batsmen can tee off, but struggle to take 20 wickets, or prepare green ones, take 20 wickets but struggle to make 200 in an innings.

Starc, Cummins, Hazelwood and Lyon are a better bowling unit than any combination of our bowlers.

Absolutely, but that was probably the first time there has been a crossover of formats playing simultaneously.

Tours are much shorter than they used to be. There used to be 2-3 warm up matches before a test series. They also use to sail to Australia!

If we are splitting the players between formats, aim surprised that Bairstow and Stokes are still playing test cricket.

I think the 5 test Australia tour, with the one days and T20s tagged on would be quite long still, but I take your point. Moeen's experience in Sri Lanka (?) may also now be a factor - where he flew out and got locked in a room for 2 weeks, and then not played for 2 more weeks.

I'm not sure which test bowlers play one-day internationals regularly - Australia just seem to pick most of the same players for all formats.

Stokes is England test captain, and that's worth a lot! It's difficult to tell what makes some move away from test cricket, barring fitness concerns.

It does make you wonder though why on earth Mccullum wasn't approached to be coach earlier, the difference is staggering.

There are probably two things in play that have changed over the years. Attitude towards family has changed, they come first now, whereas in the 70s, they were expected to get on with things.

The other is no proper downtime. You read stories of Gower hang gliding etc. back in the day. These days, the players would be followed 24/7 with any misdemeanours going straight onto social media.

The Moeen situation will hopefully never happen again. That really was beyond what touring cricketers should have to go through.

Stokes was playing test cricket in the Caribbean. Either he took an educated guess and had his eye on the captaincy, or he genuinely wants to play test cricket as much as possible.

They are in their own back garden, but in England they can struggle,
the wickets are going to be key next summer and with our weather it will be the luck of the toss to get the most out of the early morning wicket and ball,

Lyon's is a danger in England and will be in the game in all 5 test, so England will have to smash him out of the game early, also the first 2 test are going to be big and if we can win 1 then I fancy England
