just made the tea and come back and from 170/2 to 195/5 ???? its a nightmare and we could be asked to bat again tonight

There's no good reason to enforce the follow on for the Aussies if we fall short of 298.
They may as well go out and put 250 on to put the game beyond us
 
Roy it was set up for you mate to go and put a big innings in and you've bottled it.
Feel like Vaughan summed it up on TMS, he doesn't have a solid forward defensive shot in his repertoire
 
At the start of play this morning the odds were

England 50/1
Draw 5/6-evens
Convicts 10/11-evens

And at the end of play the odds are exactly the same. Although the Aussies did drift to 3/1 When we were 166/2.
 
Have to bat at least till 5:30 tomorrow or we going to be chasing 450+ on last day to save the game and the last 2 days weather going to be fine! Its all on tomorrow for me.
 
The Ashes are, I believe, gone. Australia will now beat us in this match and, just because they like doing it, beat us in the final one. That's what I believe. It's not throwing in the towel, it's just a sober assessment of the difference between the two teams. And this isn't even a vintage Aussie team. Far, far from it.
The English batsmen, especially, need to take a good long look in the mirror, and ask themselves some hard questions. Roy has been useless in this series, Denly's hardly better. But Root also needs to ask himself some questions. Only two or three years back I distinctly remember that he was being talked about in hushed tones in the media, as potentially one of the great openers (in the company of Kohli, Smith, etc.) Not even close. He is a man who sometimes gets useful 50s, which he can't convert into 100s. Burns has just about delivered.
We constantly rely on the get-out-of-jail of the middle order batsmen. They can't do it every time. Stokes performed heroics to virtually win Headingley single handed.
England have not once got to 400 in this series. In a proper five-day batting side, 400 should be considered as pretty good, no more. Most of the time, they haven't even made it to 300. So they're constantly putting themselves in difficulty, because they're facing a batsman who is in scorching form and who, alone, will put 100 (and beyond) metronomically on the board.
England came into this series as World Champions. They still are. In the one-day game, which they're good at. Well, that's nice.

Whilst it’s not been his best series Root is a quality batsman, he’s just a rubbish captain. He’s not quite on Smith or Kohlis level but he still averages 49 which isn’t something to be scoffed at.

The problem for me is who takes the captaincy next, I’d maybe go with Bairstow.

Think you're spot on about Root as skipper.
The problem with selecting a batsman as captain, Root and Stokes aside, none are sure of their places.
I'm a big fan of James Vince and whilst he's had chances he's light years ahead of someone like Roy. He captains Hampshire too.
Think Denly would be decent but I'm not sure he will be a mainstay of the side when Bayliss leaves, although he looks like he has something.
Ben Foulkes is top glove man, so if he came in Bairstow could bat at three (as skipper), but we are trying to shoehorn too many number 6s into the team, so specialists are being overlooked.
