England's men's and women's team have pulled out of their series in Pakistan, due to take place next month. Apparently, there are warnings about a "specific and credible" threat, which persuaded the NZ men's team to cancel their tour of the country. If the threat is believed to be genuine, the ECB were left with little alternative but to follow suit and cancel. Obviously, the Pakistani authorities are not best pleased. You'd have to have sympathy for the Pakistani cricket authorities and the general public, who love their cricket. Moreso when you remember that they played in England during the last two summers during the pandemic.

Ramiz Raja just been interviewed on Sky News. Very frustrating for Pakistan and for England but if the expert assessment is that the security risk is too great, there's not much to be done. He made the point about Pakistan coming over here during the pandemic which was great of them but to compare that with a specific security threat is apples and oranges, sadly.

Strange statement from ECB though makes it sound like other reasons are the main concerns.

The ECB statement makes no mention of the word ‘security’, and on what has been released the tours are not being cancelled for that reason. Huge sympathy for the PCB.

Agree, every sympathy with the PCB. Weird that on the one hand the NZ tour was called off due to intelligence received of a security threat targeting the NZ team, in which case the ECB's decision to follow suit would be understandable, but as you say no mention in the statement.

Foakes back keeping for Surrey today and Pope captaining.

Interesting discussion on radio about how Counties are playing today but have absolutely no idea what they’ll be doing next year. Could end up in the bizarre situation of Nottinghamshire winning this year, but the decision is then made to revert to the 2019 system, when Notts were relegated, which would mean they would be unable to defend their title next year. Got to love cricket!
