I just cannot see England’s batting line up dominate the Aussie bowlers.
Root is class and I think too much is expected of Stokes.
I hope I am wrong but unfortunately I’ll go with the majority in predicting at least four losses.

The key to this series are Smith and Labuschange get them for small runs we have a chance. However our batters have got to play test cricket and not T20 and not come out with that bollocks its the way we play and we back each other.

Good Evening All

As my username suggests I love cricket.
I work for Lancs during the season, I am part of the scoring team for matchdays that feeds into the 2 big replay screens we have.
So next time your at lancs you know who to blame when the score is wrong!
Im also a big blue and that's my 2nd love after cricket. I have a season ticket for the east stand.

As regards the Ashes it's going to be extremely tough, it always is down there but I certainly don't think it will be as bad as people are suggesting.
Stokes back is obviously huge and Root always delivers but the other batsman will have to significantly up their game to challenge.
And that's going to be a tough ask against Cummins, Hazelwood and Starc in their own backyard. The batting has been a bit flimsy off late, let's hope we can improve and bring some winter cheer.
Anyway my prediction is 2 1 Australia with 2 draws.

Root has never scored a ton in a test match in Australia and England don't have the quality bowling required to get wickets cheaply.

Don't think any of the tests will go to the 5th day unless there is bad weather etc. Hate to say it but think it will be 5-0 to the Aussies as I can't see us scoring anywhere near enough runs to compete
Be much closer Blue speaking with my Aussie hat on , wouldn't be surprised if you take the series as we are not nearly as good as we were when you came to our shores last time.

Was just about to ask is it just me who is more worried about the bowling attack and right on cue..

More concerning than Anderson being rested for this test is apparently England where considering picking bairstow over Pope at 6! How many opportunities does bairstow get ffs. He is a shit red ball player.

Id go with (assuming reports are true and is very green surface)

Hameed
burns
malan
root
stokes
pope
butler
woakes
robinson
broad
wood

Robinson is the X factor he certainly won’t back down and is a very fiery player. We will need that. Even so just don’t see us getting the required runs to be competitive, think we will get smashed.

Such a shame archer is out he would be perfect in these conditions

Hope you're right mate, maybe it will be like 86/87 (but I can't see it.....)

I don’t rate Australia but it’s hard to see past a convincing home win. I fear it could be a whitewash if they win the first test.

Archer is a huge loss and I expect the likes of Warner (a very good player in Australia), Smith and Labuschagne to cash in against our attack. Our batting line-up looks very weak to me.

Jhye Richardson is one to look out for.

Archer seems to get a lot of injuries. The lot of a fast bowler, I guess.

A poor Australia side but probably good enough to beat us. Our batters can't post a good score and it'll be left to individuals like root and stokes to drag the rest along. We'll be 30 for 3 more often than not.
I'll back Oly Robinson for most England wickets, Smith top series batter.

I think both batting line ups are pretty average as India found out when they played them. The key would be to get after Lyon - he is the one that has managed to keep some control - if they can dominate him then it puts pressure back onto the Aussie seamers as it keeps Lyon out of the game

right last post for me with the ashes starting again
good luck to the england team and lets hope we can do our fans proud and not get a thumping

warning this was 2017 and not much as changed
