What every batsman should learn and it’s hard is to pick up the length from a bowler early.

agree but in each of the aussie first innings the lowest the 2nd wicket falls is 76 and that was a night watchman, the other two were 150 plus, thats the difference



the first lesson in batting is defence and technique
first thing we all do when we pick up a cricket bat is play a forward defence block.
forget what is at the other end waiting to bowl ? your staying put and will be here at the end of the day

a good mind set and mental attitude and defending your wicket is key and value your wicket.
it also make's them (bowlers) change their lines and length and do thing they don't like doing and you start to score runs.

golden rule is the 3 stumps defend them with your life ? when bowlers are not hitting them you should not get out
 
Silverwood got covid pinged too late but maybe we see a bit better in 4th test without him & fuck all to lose as all dignity has been lost

Agree wholeheartedly about defending your wicket, doesn't seem to apply nowadays, at nine down they should try to frustrate the bowler as a matter of personal pride but seem to want to get off the pitch asap

am in the camp of bowlers are in the team to take wickets and bat 2nd. but a good defence can like you say frustrate the bowlers. but i would rather see them smashing it around get a quick 20 or 30 runs if they can

test cricket is being made to cross over with the white ball cricket and everybody needs to bat or be ok at batting
but test cricket is about staying in and the batting order scoring the runs. your bowlers should not be asked to make runs to save the innings

england batting order is shocking and not making enough runs to give the bowlers a chance and the truth is they are asked to give both runs and wickets from the bowlers and its wrong

when austraila smell blood they never take the foot of the neck of a england team and believe me they want a 5.0 whitewash. in fact they will be judged on beating england 5.0 and anything less will be see as limp

I wasn’t saying England were going to win a test, but maybe make a bit more competitive maybe even see day 4

Nevertheless I've played cricket for years and being an opening bowler never had much chance to at for long, but even in a lost cause would be determined not to give my wicket away. Even had to bat out an over of Merv Hughes to draw a match

i fear test cricket will be a thing of the past if nothing is done by the people that love the game
ODI and 20/20 white ball cricket is now the main sport of cricket players want big money for quick cricket all year round and greed has taken over

if 5 a-side football took off big time with the players you think all the football governing bodies would let it happen ?
something has to be done right now and change how cricket is being run and played. proper cricket is test cricket end of story. it has to come first with county cricket being the base for talent to be grown and learn the trade

revamp county cricket and 4 day cricket bring it back to main stream free to air tv. play day night games that also have something on it like bonus points for wickets and runs so players and fans can get right into it
even have a combi day with a 20/20 game as part of the fixture

but please don't let test cricket fade away
