Was it a matter of Australia stopping them getting boundaries and waiting for the ball to wear for Lyon to do something?

I'd agree that sometimes there isn't a lot of brain on display from England.
 
Atherton talking of scoring 400 in a day - I had memories of England under Vaughan doing that a few times without going all out attack.

I think the Aussies just used their heads.

Team A wants to hit loads of boundaries, what do you do? Defend the boundaries.

And instead of England saying “oh great we’ll just help ourselves to free runs all day”, they just went for the boundaries still.
 
In 2005 we got 400 all out on the first day at Edgbaston. Everyone was raving about that and rightly so. We’re not going to be 100 miles from that today so chill everyone. All is ok. We’re well in this. 350 was a minimum. We’ve got that. 5 for for Moin tomorrow ;)

Not sure about this pitch now!? After tea there things happening on it and the motto about a pitch is wait till both teams have batted! Think it’s getting quicker..

get to 400 and it could be decent

We need Broad to have one of those hot streaks he's known for. And the pensioner at the other end to work a bit of magic. Hopefully "Rooooooooooot" can get his century this evening.
 
Echo what I said earlier. Joe root best English batsman of all time. Also imo the most likeable English sportsman. No ego, no fuss just pure class on and off the pitch

That's the attitude ! A compelling test match, and at least it looks competitive. Save the negativity for the Burnley match day thread.
