Bairstow is a great batsman but really is a shocking test match wicket keeper and the reality is that this has been the main difference between the 2 sides in this series

Not sure I would have bowled first.

No team has won a test at OT when winning the toss and bowling first...so no you don't do it. But this is the Ashes and we're 2-0 down in a test where we'll lose overs to the weather, so you have to bat last really so you can control things more. Patience will be key this morning. Jimmy is making things happen, Broad hasn't found his rhythm yet but there's something for the batsmen as well.

He's going to have to stand miles back and switch on when Wood bowls. He's going to be sending some absolute rockets down again. Wouldn't wait long to get him bowling either.

Only thing I'd add is that since the square was turned round in 2011, there had not been that many test matches, so its a small sample size on this square

We are 2-1 down and the weather forecast says it’s likely to be a 3 and a half day test match. We have to take 20 wickets to have any chance so, in those very specific circumstances, bowling first was really the only option.
