Surrey v Hampshire in the Championship started today at the Oval. Surrey 85-2 at lunch.

I appreciate that the game has been scheduled into an already congested calendar, but starting a Championship game with 50% of it potentially overlapping with the first summer Test seven miles away seems a bit odd.
Hasn't this always happened?

Members in all cricket clubs watching England in the long room and the county out the window.

Yes, though more often with a full slate of matches. Just feels especially inconsiderate when it’s a one-off game.
Most members on go to one or two days of a CC game, and one of a Test match.

Full schule bar 2 today or played a loop fixture yesterday.

Clearly, the pitch wasn't fit for purpose. 40 wickets in a little over two days tells a tale. And only two half centuries in those 40 wickets. You can't beat an even contest between bat and ball. But, if the game is going to be weighted in favour of one element or the other (bat or ball), which would you rather watch; a game where each side posts 450+,and the pitch acting like tarmac, and which grinds out to a draw, or this type of game? The ECB?

England players in the news for the wrong reasons yet again, apparently. It seems that Stokes and Atkinson were in a nightclub in the early hours of monday morning when an "incident" took place. The ECB are currently investigating an alleged breach of protocol. It seems, after the fiasco in Noosa during the Ashes debacle, that lessons haven't been learned. I'm reading that there's supposedly a curfew in place for the England players.

Midnight curfew for England players on duty. Looks like Stokes and Atkinson were well beyond that.

Can't see Stokes being captain after this. 3 times now while on duty with England he's been involved in nightclub incidents. He obviously has not learnt his lesson

Despite all the investment and all the protestations to the contrary, cricket remains the most unprofessional high-profile sport, and I rather admire that. I listened to the interviews with the half-sozzled ex-England captains the other day, and they all had had their capers back in the day. Nothing has changed. It’s a game rather than a sport, though I’m sure someone with a communications background will tell us the players were ‘in an approved venue letting off steam after an intense Test’. Two days work every five months can take it out you…

Your point is further validated by the state of some of the women playing for England. Not sure its drink. More like an extra slice of cake

Saw the T20 at The Oval last Friday. First cricket match since I saw the bespectacled Boycott drop a catch at Old Trafford. Took two grandsons with the three year old, after about four overs, asking if it had finished.

Taking it all at face value - they are taking the absolute piss and fucking Stokes needs to be fined heavily.............
