Criticism of Pep

But the executives at the club seem to have completely taken their eye off the ball with the PR of the actual football club.

What’s our message? Success? Beautiful football? Playing “the Guardiola way”? That’s all fine, but it’s not really a message. It’s not something that engages people on an emotional level.

Barca - more than a club, Liverpool - this means more, The Shite - the greatest football story ever told (vomit) Real Madrid - the Galacticos. Even if you disagree with those tags, they all cut through and make up people’s perception of those clubs.

Whereas with City the only message that gets through is we spend a load of money and our fans are shit. Because that’s all the media talks about. And it’s pretty much all they’ve got to go off.

Why aren’t we promoting ourselves as the club who went down to the depths of despair? The club who represent anything is possible. Of never giving up hope. Never say die? The last minute goals vs Gillingham, Aguero, Jesus, why aren’t we pushing the narrative of the club who never knows it’s beaten? Who never give up. Why can’t that be our “DNA”?

It’s a PR problem. The story is there to tell. We just don’t have anyone willing, or able, to tell that story. It’s a strategic problem, you can’t blame it all on Pep.

I do agree with this 100%, the execs/PR have taken the eye of the ball in a huge way on what we stand for as a CLUB. That emotional message has been somewhat diluted.

I agree, he wasn't going anywhere realistically and is 35 soon.

Sane is the one we need to be on.

Fern was out of contract and being offered an absolute mountain of signing-on cash by a certain team who plays in France.

Fern, himself, was expecting to leave just two months ago.

It's good news as far as I am concerned, anyhow.

Mourinho, Ancelotti and Conte all had a lot of money to spend at Chelsea as well - don't forget Klopp has taken Liverpool from a mid table team to Europa League Final runners up, CL final runners up, CL final winners and most likely PL winners this year. Along with Pep, he is among the top 3 managers in the world - you can't argue with that.

They did have money to spend - you’re right. But so did Klopp, so I’m struggling to see much of a difference there which makes his achievements any more impressive.

But your argument that Liverpool were a mid table team just isn’t supported by the facts, I’m afraid. In the 10 seasons before he took over, they finished (most recent first) 6th, 2nd, 7th, 8th, 6th, 7th, 2nd, 4th, 3rd, 3rd. And in the season before that, they won the Champions League, and finished 5th.

Now I’m willing to accept 8th as mid table - a position they finished in just once during the preceding decade. The fact is Liverpool were an established member of the fabled Top 4, before that cartel was unceremoniously shattered by Sheikh Mansour and Roberto Mancini. In no way can they reasonably be described as a mid table team.
Klopp took one of the top teams in the country, and after spending a shit load on them, made them better. Perfect - good job. It took him a while, and that’s precisely what most of the Managers I listed have done at their respective clubs. In less time, with arguably greater or at least similar reward!

He did reach a number of finals - and his record of failure at the final hurdle each time up to last season’s CL was beginning to get him a reputation as a bottler, so often was the pattern repeated. Again - I fail to see the justification for his reputation. He’s good - for sure - but one CL doesn’t make him one of the best managers in the world in my book. Mourinho, Ancelotti and Guardiola all have two - and that’s just taken from the 20 managers currently managing in the same league as him this season.

It will be interesting to see and hear the reaction of City fans to Pep Tomorrow and vice-versa.

If we win Tomorrow Night I'd like to see Pep come over to the fans after the final whistle, and for the fans to sing his chant.

Both Pep and the fans need to reconnect again.

Well after just watching his press conference,he didn't seem to care too much in what he had said,he understood he said, when ? before or after the comments he made

He will, and his team try to seduce us into going the game.

Pep Guardiola on his comments regarding attendance: "First of all I understand it. Never it was my intention to offend them. But until the last day here I will fight to see the Etihad full every single game. It's up to us to play good, to seduce them to come..."

"We want to see the people enjoy together the games."

“Since I was here I learned about FA Cup and the Premier League, it’s more important to this club than the Champions League, so it’s my mistake that I thought it would be full at 1pm on a Sunday. I will try again to push them to be with us..."

"If it’s full every single game it will be better. It’s so nice to have the fans here, I’ll always be grateful for the support.”
