Croatia have been the best side in this competition so far, finishing top of their group on 7 points ahead of Spain, Turkey and the Czechs. They were very good and organised in their last game against Spain, in which they nicked a late victory. Their biggest weakness so far has been their fans, who pretty much robbed them of maximum points in this group in the match against the Czech’s. This game may be tricky for them, as they don’t know which Portugal side will turn up. If Modric is fit from his, they have a chance of going far in this. Perisic, Corluka, Srna and possibly Modric are probably in my team of the tournament so far.
Goal scorers so far: Perisic (2), Modric (1), Rakitic (1), Kalinic (1)
Portugal on the other hand have probably been the biggest underachieving side in the competition so far. In the first 2 games they were dire, drawing to Iceland and Austria and their last game against Hungary turned into a bit of a free-for-all, with some poor defending and some decent goals leading to a 3-3 draw. Ronaldo finally turned up in their last game but he was poor until Portugal got on the score sheet. Nani has probably been their best player so far.
Goal scorers so far: Nani (2), Ronaldo (2)
Winner plays Switzerland or Poland.
Form and performances suggest Croatia but that’s if pressure doesn’t get to them and their fans behave. It also depends on whether Portugal are finally going to show up and realise that not everything has to go through Ronaldo. If Modric is back I think Croatia win this easily, if not I still think they scrape this 2-1.
