Had a similar injury to this last year 13 months ago, and got my first game next week since it happened . been signed of by dr but shitting it anyone had similar injury how is it playing again would wearing a knee bandage help or not at all
 
Have you had the reconstruction, and if so what method did they use for it? I did mine playing rugby and after advice I didnt have the reconstruction, I wore the brace for the best part of 6 months and then started building it back up. I can run and sprint and all sorts of things no problem, in a straight line. Twisting and turning is difficult, not least mentally because even though it was a fair few years ago I am constantly aware that there is a problem there. I have to do regular bleep tests for my job and I dread them because though I get through no problem, the stiffness and pain I have for a good week after is a bastard. Even after a good night on the piss when Ive been swaying or wobbling a bit on it, its sore. Good luck with your first game back. My advice is not to hold back because thats how you get further injured. Also, keep doing plenty of weights on it. Building up your quads and hamstring will be the best thing you can do for it.
 
I've done both, ruptured PCL in right knee, snapped ACL in left knee. Advice I can give you, be sure its up to what you want to do, any doubts then don't play and do more rehab, you really have to build up you muscles around the knee. Another problem is the mental side, I always subconsciously came down on my good knee after jumping for headers etc, it was this that caused my ACL in my good knee to snap. You don't just have to be physically ready but mentally too.

Things are not exactly the same and at the time I lost a yard of pace.
Trust is the main issue...It is always on your mind even if you feel a twinge!
Get your head right and you will be fine.
I have just returned from climbing Ben Nevis after doing Scafell and Snowdon this year...that is a good test of the knees but I have survived.

I've ruptured my ACL in my left knee twice (original and graft).

Must admit, it was never the same and I never really got over it.

At city games now, if it's particularly cold, the walk back to the car is hard work!

Would rather have broken both my legs to be honest.

I've done a couple of those, I found going up was fine but coming back down was worse on the knees
 
I had a small tear in my meniscus in my right knee, I was getting swelling and stiffness, a couple of days of inti inflammatory's and it would go down and feel normal but as soon as attempted to exercise it would start swelling again, the doctors told me it has a good chance to self heal being where it is (outer knee), oddly I now find since I started a vegi diet and exercise regime the only time I get any problem from it is when I miss a day at the gym, also just to go off topic for a moment, since I've cut meat from my diet my eye sight has improved too.
 
With regards to a knee support, don't bother, your knee will be better without it in the long run.

When I did my ACL, I thought about having a support on it, but your knee has to learn how to be normal again, and by helping it with that, your not using your full motion and it will never properly heal itself.

You need to do some physio to tighten the muscles around your knee, but that's all you need. If your muscles are shit around your knee, then a support is probably necessary. You really need to get your quad and hamstring nice and strong.

Took me 2 and a half years to feel like I could trust it playing football again but in all honesty it's never going to be 100%. My hamstring feels weak and tight too, so definitely take Mark's advice and build up the strength in the muscles around your knee, thigh and hamstring.

I did mine about 3 and a half years ago, had the op 6 months later and have now pretty much given up football. I played for my local team last year but I'd lost the little pace I had and just couldn't get back to my old self. I prefer playing cricket now ;)

Good luck with the recovery though and I hope you do get back playing. Only people who've had it happen to them know how bad it is so I wish you well.
