Well Dougie was in charge at the beginning of last year and after our poor season my only was hope to avoid relegation. Dougie being a club legend was going to get as much time as possible to run the club and Parish, who saved the club CPFC2010 does not sack managers. Last week of transfer window we bought a lot of players, after taking their time to gel we were really god. Glenn Murray best striker in the league and Zaha best player. Went on an amazing run. Dougie decided to betray as for money, leave many fans split on him. Personally I cannot forget hims saving us so forgive him. Holloway comes in and actually does a poor job, but then we are brilliant in the play offs and Zaha has his perfect send off and we make the Premiership.
This season Holloway wasted a lot of money on players. We bought far too many and did not actually strengthen the key area we needed to, which was at centre back. Everyone thought we needed a new centre back, but in the last few weeks Gabbidan and Delaney have been great. Due to the lack of pace we have to defend deep and stick DK and Jedinak in front of the back four. Jedinak for me is class. Reads the game so well and is big and strong. Think a good lower level Feillani. However, he does lack pace and his passing can sometimes be hit and miss. DK is a big bloke, but not really good enough for me. Would not be surprised to see him go.
The break through player for us this season has to be Ward. He has been fantastic for us left back or right back. Had Mata in his pocket on Saturday and then even had Hazard under control. Fantastic player and got an assist. He is big, strong and good in the air too. On the left we usually have Moxey, but I prefer Parr who has been injured for a while, but is making his return. I like Parr and he is good attacking. Away fans often confuse the two, because they are both very blond. Mariappa has come in because our two left backs are injured and Ward has had to move across. Has looked shaky and no where near as good as Ward.
Speroni is our keeper and is a bit of a club legend. Our longest serving player and was brilliant a few seasons back. Back then would say he was good enough to play for a top table Premiership club. Is not as good as he once was then, but still a very good keeper for us.
On the wing we have been playing Puncheon, who has improved recently, but with a lot of loan players I feel he is playing for himself rather than the club. A selfish player and shoots too much. Bolassie is very raw, very quick with a trick. He is like a less talented version of Zaha. He does not get enough goals, but has a good cross and is a decent outlet. Has missed the last few games, because of the red he got against Hull. Kebe is liked by some fans, but I am not an admirer. Then we play Bannan out wide, who has been very good. Great delivery into the box and since we have a biggish side helps a lot. We have nicked your Kolo song for him.
Up front we have Gayle, who was just a waste of money. Buying a lad of his experience for so much was bad business, but hopefully he will come good. I can only see him blossoming if we go down. Chamakh has been brilliant for us. Even at the start despite wimping out of the tackle at Stoke, he had worked tirelessly and put himself about. Pulis then had the brilliant idea to move him behind the striker. Has been a revelation there. Our best player and rarely gives the ball away. Works hard and closes the defence and is getting goals. I think he has something like 4 goals in 5 shots. Cameron Jerome is a bit hit and miss. Has been fantastic some weeks, but poor the next. Was great against West Ham and Hull, but was poor against Chelsea. If he had one of his better games we would have got a point.
So that's pretty much the first team. Then we have our youngsters. The most notable being O'keefe and Williams. We did not actually produce O'keefe, but he works hard is good technically and puts his foot in. A decent player, but I don't think will ever be a star. Williams on the other hand has already played for Wales, is a really nice kid and a fantastic talent. We call him Joniesta, because he is a Crystal Palace version of Iniesta in the way he players. I worry about him, because he is too good for the way we play.
Initial season hopes were to come in 17th, but would have taken not doing worse than Derby and building for the future. Now I think we can stay up, but is going to be hard, because lots of teams picking up points. There was a mixed reaction to Pulis taken the job, but I am happy he got it and think he was the best we could have hoped for. Keith Millen got the confidence and team spirit back, which got us playing a lot better than under Holloway. Pulis has tactically improved us further with the organisation and formation of the team ie moving Chamakh behind the striker as I said. Quite optimistic now for the season and hope we can get Zaha on loan with Murray to return. If we stay up the dreamer in me would love to see Moses and Clyne back to the club too. Anyway have to go, but can literally talk all day about Palace.
