Cycling Advice

Yup.

I'm hoping it's just the Daily Fail click-bait pandering to the hoards of car loving, anti-cyling Gammons who foam at them mouth every time someone posts a close pass video on social media . I've just got this feeling that it might just start to gain traction and if it does it will be a huge backwards step in terms of encouraging active travel.
I'd be happy to sign up so long as the cyclist gets the desperately needed infrastructure. Caught up with the last few weeks on this thread, and I have to say, I rarely go anywhere near a cycle path/lane on account most of them are full of shit and are a puncture waiting to happen.
Contrast with Switzerland, where it's like cycling on a snooker table.

I think the problem is that a lot of people will see it as another barrier to cycling and just not bother. It's hard enough anyway with the lack of infrastructure and limited secure parking options.

People often miss the big picture when it comes to cycling in that it has huge positive physical and mental health benefits. The more people that can be encouraged to get out of their cars and on to bikes the better it will be in the long term for the NHS with the vast saving on the health budget. The majority of car journeys are less than 5 miles, so there really are no excuses.

I know it's the Daily Fail, but any thoughts on the prospect of cyclists having to sport registration numbers, insurance, speed restrictions, etc.?

Lol there isnt enough police to police the motorist who dont have insurance or tax let along dealing with cyclists

The cyclists who annoy me more than anything are the ones who fly down the pavement with no regards for the pedestrians

I didn't realise it was 'C*nt Week' on the road this week; I must have missed the posters.

3 DCP's (deliberate close pass) and a classic MGIF (must get in front) at a roundabout.

The driver at the roundabout cut me up 15yds from the roundabout then blocked the road because he couldn't squeeze past the 40ft truck waiting to turn right. I sarcastically thanked them for being so considerate and ended up with a 45 second diatribe of anti cycling bingo (road tax, blah, insurance, blah, riding in the middle of the road, blah, running red lights, blah (I don't). The twat then tried to brake check me on the roundabout while he was still ranting.

One of the DCP's was dangerously close. I know it was deliberate because the driver already had his passenger window down shouting as I was indicating he'd passed me too closely. Plus there was nothing coming in the other direction so there really was no other excuse for their aggressive driving.

Anyway, I'm not dead, so I'll chalk that up as a win.

My last puncture was on a shocking cycle path with all the shit from the adjacent road all over it... Newly resurfaced but never swept... I wouldn't mind but the tyres I had on at the time were around £45 new so hardly cheap..

My bottle went after that white van nearly took me out. Would have killed me, he didnt see me at all or didnt care I was there. Havent got back on bike since, which is a twat given the fuel prices. Will have to make some baby steps and get confidence up. Im no fanny either, but it was terrifying
