how many dads although they supported city

went to maine rd one week then old trafford the other

I used to do that back in the early 1970's as i lived in Hulme , halfway between the two grounds , and my mates were split about 60/40 in Citys favour.

But gradually it became all too evident where i was happiest going , and one ground soon fell by the wayside!

I used to know someone from saf Lunnun, who used to go to Millwall one week and Charlton the next.

He told me he once saw Frank Swift catch a ball one-handed at full stretch.

My dad, who is a united fan, used to go to both quite regularly in the 50's and early 60's. He stopped going to Maine Road when he met my mum in the mid-sixties but kept going (sometimes with her) to Old Trafford - I think he's been a season ticket holder for around 50 years now.

He was forced into attending Maine Road again with a greater degree of regularity in the late 70's by his recalcitrant son who for reasons he has never been able to understand decided to support City.

We went to a few interesting game together before I was old enough to go on my own, including the 1981 cup final where he was loudly cheering for City.

The story ends on a sad note, however.

Now we pose a threat to his beloved united he seems to spend nearly every waking hour slagging us off. He now hates us more than Liverpool. If you close your eyes you can actually smell the fear.

God I love being a City fan.

As a kid I was taken to both in late 60's by my mate's dad but remember my old man and grandfather putting me on the good path. Also, went occasionally with rag mates to the Swamp when we were playing away and couldn't afford/get to our away game. Always, but always supported the opposition though! Haven't been near the place in 30 years unless we're playing.
