Re: Agger announcement

If Liverpool are adamant on the £27million then it's time to walk away or include Johnson while using Premier League logic to value him at over £15million.

Re: Agger announcement

Everytime I read about this player, Liverpools valuation of him seems to go up by 2m. Suspect that if I log in tomorrow the asking price will be 29m. :-)

Re: Agger announcement

Too much.

We can go back in Jan or the Summer. There's no urgency for City to do any deals any more

Liverpool would be willing to sell Daniel Agger to Manchester City if they receive a “ridiculous offer” for the defender.

Liverpool have rejected two bids from City for the Denmark international, the second valuing Agger at about £20 million. But they are prepared to do business if their asking price is met, with Rodgers hoping to use the proceeds from any sale to reinvest in his squad.

Liverpool have made it clear to Brian Marwood, City’s chief football administration officer, that they are seeking a fee of about £27 million for Agger. That valuation may appear unrealistic given the 27-year-old’s patchy fitness record, but Liverpool regard Agger as one of Europe’s best defenders and want a fee that reflects that status.

Rodgers claimed that Paris Saint- Germain’s recent signing of Thiago Silva has established the market rate for central defenders. “Silva has left AC Milan for PSG for £40 million,” he said. “He [Agger] is one of the leading players in European football, so it is going to be a big valuation. Every player has a price and top centre halves are at a premium.”

Asked if Liverpool had received offers from City, Rodgers said: “Yes, but nowhere near the valuation of what the player is worth. You can only consider something like that if it is going to benefit you.
“Of course, you might lose a top player but if it benefits you going forward, and you can make two or three steps because of it, you may have to consider it. But we don’t want to sell him, so unless someone comes in with a ridiculous offer that makes you look at it and think you can benefit in one or two other areas, there is no way I want to lose one of my best players.

“Daniel is a top player and any manager will tell you that they don’t want to lose their best players. But I suppose at every club, every player has a price.”

Thought in yesterday's paper he said 22m and he's ours?

Re: Agger Bid

I'm not covering myself in glory here, after singing his praises, Tony Barrett seems to be chopping and changing his mind. This is taken from today's Times article:

That valuation may appear unrealistic given the 27-year-old’s patchy fitness record, but Liverpool regard Agger as one of Europe’s best defenders and want a fee that reflects that status.

Interestingly though, he claims that:

Liverpool are set to make Joe Allen their second major signing of the summer after triggering a release clause in the Wales international’s contract with Swansea City by tabling a £15 million bid.

Where would those funds have come from...?

Totally agree. Let Rodger's find some other mug to finance his transfer business.

If we pay £27 million for him Marwood needs sacking.

Not sure what he said yesterday, but he is the trusted journo of the club and often gets directly briefed, so he knows his stuff.
Think the info came from the press conference today though, apparently Rodgers likes briefing off the record. I presume its the same source my guy got the info from earlier on today but I don't know as he doesn't tell me.

People disputed what you were saying not because you, like Barrett, quoted Rodgers, but because you agreed with the sentiment that Agger is on a par with these players and is worth that valuation iirc.

Re: Agger announcement

Well Mr Rodgers at 27 million I Tell you to Fuck Off out of here. And If Thiago Silva is the bench mark then liverpool paying 20 mill for henderson should be a benchmark for midfielders and they should pay 25 million for Alan than.

Thanks mate I'll keep an eye out for your posts in the future.

Re: Agger announcement

£27million, for a few million more we could have gotten the man Mancini wanted Thiago Silva, so there's no way we'll pay close to £27million.

If the Tiago silva is the criteria Brendan Rogers uses then Joe Allen must be 30 Mill as Liverpool paid 20mill for Jordan Henderson. Any striker they buy in the future will be over 35 mill as they are likely to be better than Carroll

Talking through his backside - City need to state 18 mill which is still probably to much and then walk away

Agger announcement

Think Liverpool owners will be pissed of if we walk away after making a 20m offer! Call the BLUFF they will come knocking!

We should of offered 15m 2 days before the transfer window closes then the next day 18m take it or leave it! I bet the owners would of took it..

Re: Agger announcement

It is frustrating, but what can we do. I hope we have a decent backup plan in place.

Re: Agger announcement

Its basically a case of Liverpool aren't looking to actively sell, but if they get an insane offer he will go.

There's no demand from the player to leave (Agger has said in interviews he doesn't like watching football, his family are all Liverpool fans so he wouldn't push a move etc)

So therefore it makes no logic for Liverpool to sell for £18-20m. They'd have to find a replacement which would cost a big portion of that and it would be a massive ballache and risk for the reward of a few million left over. But if City bid £27m, they can sign a replacement and Allen for that amount.

He'd be worth every penny of £27m if he didn't miss a third of every season through injury.

Re: Agger announcement

The £27million figure is bullshit. The fee for the player was agreed days ago. The negotiations that have been going on in the last 36 hours are between City and Agger about agreeing terms not City and Liverpool about agreeing a fee.

Re: Agger announcement

We are being taken for a ride left, right and centre in this fucking transfer window. What the hell do we expect when we are going for players like Agger though? What backup for him do they have??? So they're hardly going to just part with him for a poultry 20 mill.
