City and Darlington FC
Been a Blue all my life but since early 70s always followed the fortunes of Darlo, even watching them when City were not playing.

Was going to Barrow with my youngest today but gutted not to be able to due to illness as it may be the last game before their liquidation. The match kicked off late due to Darlo fans numbers.

If our owner or a friend of his is reading this, you changed my life by saving the first love of my life, how about helping Darlo now?

Hopefully they can some how turn everything around but sadly i can't see that happening.

Very emotional day. Sad to see a club in the throws of a death rattle.

Northern Echo ran a story this morning saying that the administrators were willing to put up £50k if the fans would do the same. This would keep the club running for another week! This would mean each regular fan coughing up about £5k.

How could a club playing in the Conference get into the situation where it's coosting them nearly half a million to run per month? Sorry to say it lad but i think you are goosed. Thank the great George Reynolds on your way out.

Like someone has posted let it die and start again at a lower level where there will be no debt and the club can push through and come back far stronger.

They can put all the money they want but whats the point when in a few months time they will be up against again.

I often wonder why we don't follow the same route as Halifax

I remember in 81 when they were about to fold reading a piece about a pensioner who had sent in £25.00 to keep them going - so did send something myself.Think it needs a bit more this time!

Darlington have always been my second-team too (after City, of course) ... my Dad was born there and my grandparents lived there till they died, so I spent a lot of weekends / holidays / Christmases up there, growing up.

It doesn't seem that long ago that Brian Little was leading them to successive promotions and things seemed to finally be on the way up, but I suppose that was as good as it got, and that's 20 years ago now. Shouldn't have left Feethams, of course - no point in a 25,000 capacity stadium and they couldn't afford it.

Very sad - perhaps we should all remember what life is like for most teams outside the Premier, and their fans, as City move on to their highly success future.

We might have to do a game together - if there are any!

Sorry about my earlier maths, what a numpty.

However sad it may be that Darlo will probably go to the wall it should be a lesson to other teams who try to live beyond their means. After all, if i am making £1000 a week and spending £2000 a week i will soon be in the shit. This is basically what Darlo have been doing for the last few years. No wonder the current chairman said enough was enough. He would be bankrupt very soon if he continued funding it all himself.

As someone else has said they should never have left Feethams in the town center. Someone should have had the balls to stand up to that petty crook when he came up with the scheme of moving you out of town to a 25,000 all seater. Did no one think "wait a moment" when he made that statement of taking Darlo into the Premiership in 5 years once the new ground was up and running. Once you moved your future was doomed.

I used to love my visits to the "tin shed". Was it the only ground in the country were you could change ends at half time. Whichever end Darlo attacked the vast majority of the support was behind that goal, brilliant. Also, if you went early season, you could sometimes take in a cricket match beforehand. I think they also used to play hockey on the cricket pitch during winter. Met some friends for life there and will always have happy memories of the place.

always baffles me how many clubs are run so poorly. it always appears as money mis management to me. trying to live and spend above their means. can't be done people. simple as that

Part of me would've urged a few local business people to cough up enough between them to keep the Club afloat but it's clearly got to the point where the Club is liquidated and a new Supporter led Club reforms somewhere down the Non-League pyramid with a charter to ensure this situation does not occur again. This slow painful death of Darlington helps no-one.

Agree - the only difficulty here, is when clubs like Chester and Halifax folded, the new supporter run clubs simply inherited the 'old' clubs stadium.
A new Darlington would most likely have to play in a nearby town, with fans having to travel for each game, which might put a few off and the cost of ground sharing a drain on resources.

I'm sure a solution can be found to benefit the majority but they can improvise when at a non-league level. It's sad - but a damning reminder to Clubs that they need good owners and to run within their means.

I'll ask again as it was ignored in the other darlo thread (or no one knew the answer), what will happen to the stadium? Very nice ground to be stood there doing nothing?
