Dave Watson has neurodegenerative disease

I don’t want to sound like I’m disrespecting Dave Watson’s condition or any other sufferer as that is not my intention.
He was my hero growing up.
But Pep must have had a big impact with reducing this awful disease by playing the game on the floor. Being copied at every level.
Obviously not Peps intention but a very good bi product of his playing style
it must have some kind of positive impact
No heading in junior football until u10s. Its a start

100% this. My father-in-law has had 10 years of this, and we've recently had to place him in a care home. Just awful to see the person slowly disappear in front of your eyes.
I concur, I watched my mum ravaged and taken by alzheimer's, it changes everyone that it comes into contact with.

Seeing my dad ripped apart was horrendous and something that will always haunt me.

Terribly sad for his family as it is for all who have to deal with this horrible disease.

Though there was much more to his game than this, in my head he'll forever be that 30 something warrior, uncomprisingly attacking the ball.

Hero.......never forget

Having lost both of my parents to dementia I fully concur with all the comments

It won't ease your suffering but I know what you're all going through

My favourite player growing up, dementia is an appalling condition. So sad it's come to this for him

What a defender for us. He headed a hell of a kicks from the keeper. Ball 's were still heavier then today but those Mitres were coated. Todays foitballs are like plastic. Sad to hear this "6.2 eyes o' blue big Dave Watson's after you"

My dad is 10 years into this. It's horrible. It affects us all more than I thought it would. My mum is really struggling. Been with them today, heartbreaking.
Wishing you all the very best in this pal,
Goes without saying just give your mum a hug and be there for them both.
Myself and my sister are I think are just starting to go through this with mum.

Can’t get it to work

There’s a good film about chronic traumatic encephalopathy: true story about Dr Bennet Omalu who was the first person to discover this brain disease.

Film is called Concussion.

Cheers, sorted now
Something I've just discovered on smry paywall remover as I've only just started using it. It comes up with a summary, shown as smry, by default with all the text but no photos. If you select archive at the top right you get the photos too. There are some great ones of Dave as a player.
