He was kicked up in the air a few times today (shit, yesterday); it's not surprising he was off he pace a bit. Brighton players took turn targeting him, and one even raked studs down his calf, unpunished of course.

He's been our most targeted player for the last 5 years, and all that punishment must take it's toll. I'm surprised he hasn't been seriously injured.

I think the stress of last year and the baby had pneumonia the night before the dipper game and he was ok up till then, maybe football just isn't as important as it was and of course he is getting on,he has played more than was the plan because kev has been out,it's just too much

Looks to me like he is carrying an injury as seems to be playing within himself. Not shaking off the crunching fouls he is usually on the receiving end of !
Any insider info ?

I said in the summer, he should be a strategically used backup this season. Nothing I see has changed my mind.

I expect him.to be 4th choice behind Kev, Berny and Foden next season.

Simply not performing currently. Would only play him with Sane in the team. The pair seem to have an incredible understanding which brings the best out of them both.

To be fair we've been spoilt by his consistency in the past. He was always an 8 to 8.5 out of ten and rarely lost form, sometimes simply unplayable. At the moment he's about a 6.5 to 7 which is ok ish. He has lost a little form for the first time and it is up to Pep to pick and choose his games as he is still capable of moments of pure magic. For me the in the biggest games coming up I would always play a midfield of Sane, KDB,Fernandinho, Bernardo, Sterling with Sergio up top. To write off David is silly but there is no doubt his game time needs more managing as he is not the automatic choice of the last few years. We are so lucky to have him.

As I've said recently imo, he's either carrying something/knackered, or ( causing great umbrage ) he's just lost it.

The kind stuff he is getting wrong, doesn't usually happen being a bit 'out of form' for a player of his experience & quality. That's like saying someone is 'out of form' breathing, if they stop breathing properly.

I actually found it encouraging yesterday, when he was totally outpaced to a ball he would have hoovered up with time to spare in September. That means it could be physical & that would mean he might produce a few big performances when it's crucial. Hope so.

The current version of DS is worrying & is actually spoiling the team.

The frustrating thing for me is that pretty much every game there are moments where we are attacking and Dave unlike his former self who plays they killer pass, simply holds on to the ball for FAR too long and then either runs into a defender and loses it, gives it away or passes backwards. I don't know what's changed in his head because the ball skills are all still there but the vision seems to have gone.

And you can't put it down to players not making runs or not being into position. You see Sane or Sterling or Aguero in space screaming for the bloody thing.

I saw get him get fouled, but i certainly didn't think he was being targetted or think Brighton took it in turns to foul him.

Quiet game yesterday and he certainly is not having the sort of impact he has had on games as he has done in the past. Form is temporary class is permanent, so hopefully he can start playing them eye of needle passes and create assists a plenty soon.

Unfortunately age is permanent as well. I fear we may have seen the best of Dave, sadly. But I am sure he can still contribute and strongly influence some games, perhaps just less so.

Have to agree,he can’t go on forever, but he can still play a huge part,I actually think he’s been used to much at times and this could be the reason he’s also not at his best, but unfortunately age catches up and that may be the major factor, still a fantastic player though..probably be motm on tues night and grab a goal ..

I agree with others who say this is injury related not age, form doesn't change that dramatically due to age. He started the season really well but let's face it, even that form didn't match his peak which is absolutely normal and expected, that's the age related decline in action, the second half of the season is differnt.

For a few of the last games I've had to check the line up to see if he's in the team, he's been that anonymous, almost like he is actively avoiding the ball.

I'd rest him and only use him as a sub if necessary now. Hopefully we'll see him back to this start of the season form next season!

Think his dip has contributed mostly to fatigue

At 33 he was supposed to be rested more this season and protected, but due to injuries to KDB (and Dinho) hes probably going to end the season playing more minutes than last

Its unreasonable to expect him to keep up his early season form if hes never able to recover

I mean at 33 Iniesta, one of the best footballers of all time couldn't keep up his level of performance to the point Barca let him go

Say David has another 2 years left, but needs to be used more sparingly than he has been this year

I think this is the best comparison, Iniesta was/is a Barca legend but they still let him leave at 33yo, letting Silva go back to his home town team will be a massive wrench but unfortunately for us, this is on the horizon sooner rather than later :(

He has been the model pro in all his time here and who can forget him still playing his heart out while his boy was ill in hospital, legend is tossed around easily nowadays but in David Silva we certainly have one.
