Great interview with him in the Independent and a couple of interesting references to City.

Top man.

A fine actor. I remember the production of Nicholas Nickleby that the article mentions which was in the very early days of Channel 4 (when it still used to show something other than sensationalist shite about benefit claimants) and his portrayal of Smike was astonishing.

A Burnage lad eating at the Midland with Larry Olivier? Jeez! He didn't even wear a City top!

He probably wore underneath his shirt like Nick Leeson.

I went to the same school as David Thelfall, albeit I started there as he finished. He was fortunate (as was I and many others of that era) to have two fantastic English teachers who inspired him to go into acting and left lots of us with a lifelong love of theatre and literature. Good to hear he is still in touch with them, Frank Casey, who I didn't really know and Alan Johnson (now owns the book shop in Chorlton) who taught me for five years. How the hell he persuaded the powers that be to let him take a bunch of teenagers from a comprehensive school (who's only previous claim to fame had been to star in a World in Action programme on truancy) to theatres in Manchester, Oldham, Bolton, Liverpool and Stoke is beyond me. But he did, and I've been grateful to him ever since.

It is wonderful to hear a guy like Threlfall (and you too) being able to say that he is still inspired by a teacher 40+ years down the line.

For such a small place Burnage has produced some talented people with me obviously included in that
Seriously didn't know he was a Burnage lad .
