DC United staff member sacked for making hand gesture

It's not quite like that.

Bizarrely this started as a joke on 4chan (an 'anything goes' website, with an excess of right wing young men), but it's now been genuinely picked up by the far right, so whether it's offensive depends on the circumstances.

Clearly if you or I made the gesture to signify all was ok, then people getting het up would be ridiculous, but if someone is using it to signify white power then it's genuinely offensive - a bit like making a nazi salute. You would hope that if someone is being sacked, then the employer has a clear understanding of the context.
I don’t care mate, I stand by every word of my post ..!

On my first trip to England as an "adult" in 1977, I made the mistake, in a crowded and noisy pub, of asking the bartender for two pints this way. Needless to say, I received my two pints only after he was pulled off of me and the error of my ways was explained to me. Next time I approached the bar, I only asked for one beer and stuck up my middle finger to order it, we both laughed our arses off and became friends thereafter.

Yeah, because everyone's really good at considering the context nowadays.

Yep, just read it. This is going back to 2019 aswell.
The things you learn, imagine going on holiday there and not knowing this.
He’s me thinking the Nazi salute was still the thing - moving with the times i suppose these cavemen
They'll reach the 20th century in the next few decades at this rate.
