Dean Ashton retires and is wanting to sue SWP and Chelsea

Re: Dean Ashton retires and is wanting to sue SWP and Chelsea

He has no legal case against SWP or Chelsea. At best, he and West Ham may have a claim against England's insurer. Didn't Pearce almost sign him, but opted for Samaras instead?

Actually Rag ;-) the two cases are near identical, both got injured in a tackle (though I prefer to call Keanes an assualt) both were out for a long time, both attempted comebacks, both comebacks failed due to problems stemming from the original injury.
Did Haaland not play the next 2 games for city after the tackle and retired due to an injury on the other leg a year later?

I'm big enough to say I stand corrected. That said Keane's tackle was a shameful assualt and a deliberate attempt to injure another pro is disgraceful. I think most people would accept that SWP didnt have this kind of malicious venom when challenging Ashton in practice and DA would not get much sympathy on here if he tried to sue him.

Ashton deserves nowt, he was injured in a training game, how anyone can say swp injured him on purpose is a nutcase.
Keanes tackle was bad, really bad, I agree with that

Don't be so swift with that apology! I don't think Haaland played 90 minutes after that tackle and the injury to the other knee was reportedly down to the pressure put on it while the other knee (which Keane fucked up) was not operating properly.

It was problems with his other knee that led to his retirement though.

Indeed it was, but it was reportedly a result of THAT tackle. Impossible to prove though.

That's a real shame, Ashton was an excellent player. I wish him all the best.

However, any case against SWP and/or the FA will be very complicated. He missed the 2006/7 season after being tackled by Shaunie in training, but played more than 30 times in the Premier League in 2007/8 before the ankle started causing problems again. It'll be extremely tricky to prove with certainty that it was all down to that one single tackle.

There`s more to this announcement that meets the eye. Ashton has announced his retirement today to ensure that he gets a payout on his contract from West Ham. I am led to be believed that WHU have under-insured Ashton. As a consequence they will have to pay out above the insurance for the rest of his contract. This on a day when there is going to be an announcement in the Icelandic legal courts over the future of the Bank that owns WHU. There is a possibility that the Icelandic Bank will be declared bankrupt and as a consequnence it`s assets (of which WHU is one) will be sold off. But they have been trying to sell the club themselves for months now with no buyers. Perhaps Gold & Sullivan are waiting in the wings to pick them up on the cheap. I reckon Ashton is getting in quick before all WHU`s money disappears.

Never really rated him to tell the truth, would'nt of been happy if he had come to City.......... but the thats what I said about Bellamy, guess it shows how much I know.

Its a shame his career was never the same/ended, but he decided to be a professional footballer and injuries of all sorts come with the territory. When players retire at any age due to their bodies breaking down they dont turn around and sue FIFA cause they have bad knees for the rest of their life. He should be thankful for his footy career and go gracefully.
