You're confused on this, mate. The part about "common second language". Kids are bring given a choice as to which second language they want to study. That is a good thing, freedom of choice.

I've got friends I work with from many places. Some had one "choice" of language in school. I know one whose school offered the three you mentioned plus Japanese and Russian.

And as a father of a girl footballer, I like the idea of girls having more opportunity. As for the details, I haven't quite figured that out.

The Government do not intervene in what languages are taught so why should they intervene in what sports are taught.
I doubt many, if any at all, schools are still being sexist. You're a boy so you play football, you're a girl so netball is over there.
This is just another pile on, we have one after every time we are successful in a sport.

As the women have just won the Euros surely it suggests that we're doing things right and don't need to make drastic changes? The investment in the professional game means that women can play football as a career and the facilities are there. Plenty of girls have more opportunities to play football but we don't need to see this nonsense when there are so many bigger issues to resolve. There are kids in Brazil still kicking the ball around the favela's and becoming world class!

My mum taught girls PE back in the 70's and had a very successful girls football club.
Mum always had a City squad picture ever season on the office wall.

No idea if girls start off with hockey still as it was in the 70's I was at school but hockey was not even liked by most girls but was forced on them.

The woman’s football team rightly call for every young girl to have the same rights to play football as boys, but owing to over ten years of Tory rule, the country is utterly fucked and we can’t even afford to build a few football pitches for them. What a shower of bastards they are and if they elect either of those useless cunts to be PM it will only get worse. Because if anyone thinks that moron of a **** Truss will fix the shit they caused, they are living in Cloud Cukoo Land.

Correct.

Certainly at primary level in our area every time we offer a boys football tournament, we offer a girls one. When we invited or are invited to other schools for matches, we do a boys and a girls match/es. We teach PE to the whole cohort through the same sport and skills - sometimes we will divide into subset of boys and girls if appropriate when it comes to the games element. Our boys football and rugby teams often have two or more girls representing that team.

I know of some very successful girls academy clubs around here and two of the local secondaries specialise in different sports for both genders - one has better football and tennis coaches and facilities which both genders access and another has better gymnastics, hockey and athletics which prove successful ventures for a lot regardless of gender.

There’s a lot of shit flinging on the back of what is evidently progress and movement in the right direction.

In a school of 100 girls, 20 want to play netball, 10 rugby, 20 football, 10 hockey, 10 don't want to do any sport, 10 want to do so called minority sports that they've seen on tv and 20 want to do computer gaming, why should the school be forced to do football because the adults were successful and wrote a letter.

Having voted since 1978 I can recollect school playing fields and local green spaces being sold to developers for housing by mostly Labour led councils in the 5 areas of the country I have lived in. I know several friends whose young daughters play football for under 11 teams in Lancashire, there are numerous clubs out there for all ages. There are zero barriers to any girl who wants to play. But carry on blaming governments (both left and right) for all your perceived ills and others, it means you can continue to sit on your arse!

Just my opinion but when I was at school girls got the choice of hockey,netball or rounders.
No idea if it is the same now but I would hope the choice is better now and at least have a choice of doing a sport that you have an interest in.
