Going to take a guess our list is

Priority Bruno G, if we can’t get Bruno

Zubimendi , if he decides he wants to stay we go for Pepelu as Valencia won’t be hard to deal with as their in a mess

I wouldn’t go Wharton on Jan. Bruno G would be my priority signing. Zubimendi should be a level raiser too. I’ve heard good things about Pepelu (and Ricci) but haven’t seen a great deal myself.

Pepelu from the videos I've seen looks like a better version of Declan Rice with some of David Silva's passing range.

Because Viana is only reportedly joining us in February, I think it’s unlikely that we’ll drop a fortune on players in the coming window. We therefore either muddle on with what we have and hope for the best, or we look for a couple of practical, short-term signings. The Italian press are reporting that Verratti already wants out of Qatar, and he’s a player Guardiola has long admired. We already have a bit of a Dad’s Army midfield, I know, so he’d fit right in…
Doubt it would be particularly hard to get Vianas opinion of a potential signing before February if the club feels they are in need of reinforcements urgently. Which I assume we are considering we are currently dropping points more or less every game and the team is not just out of form, it's unrecognizable.

With that said, if no elite level players are getable in January I would rather see a short term gamble than a long term one. The last thing we need is more mediocre signings being made out of desperation that we then are stuck with, lowering the standards of the squad.

I think Sporting have already agreed to Viana coming to us earlier than initially thought, but as part of that I’m sure they’ll want him focused exclusively on their business in the window and not ours.
I think there are experienced players that could be obtained, such as Verratti, and they would be much less of a gamble than someone whose career trajectory cannot yet be discerned.

It doesn't matter if Viana joins earlier or not, City have a sporting director as it stands and a pressing need in the squad. I very much doubt Viana will be courting wildly different players to support the Guardiola way of playing. We need to press ahead regardless

I'm not as sure. I've long thought that part of our problems stem from signing too many players that were taking us away from Guardiola's football that had given us the greatest success: no longer favouring midfield/attacking players that are technically good in the pockets (Kovacic/Gundogan) and instead favouring players who are more comfortable playing expansively (Haaland, Doku, Phillips, Nunes, Savinho). I'd like us to get back to signing more of the former.

Yep. We really need a Silva type player
