Can anyone help?

I can't boot my lads Dell Laptop

Run F12 Diagnostics at get this Dell Error code 2000-0141

Is the Hard Drive dead or some other kind of error.

Did a quick look for you.

It appears that you need to remove and reinstall your hard drive.

The page that you can start to find out how to do this is here

<a class="postlink" href="http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&docid=266787#HDD" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://support.dell.com/support/topics/ ... 266787#HDD</a>

If you scroll down the page you will see the code and a link to fix it. This will tell you to see your service manual on how to remove and reinstall your drive.

I have no idea if this page is for service engineers or regular Joes.

Hope that this helps a bit.

Thanks I will give that a go, seems a odd thing to though.

Has your lad dropped it. This happened after I dropped mine. The hard drive slid out of its plug. Open the flap underneath and see if the hard drive has slipped. If so just plug it back in and restart your laptop. Hope this helps.

Have unscrewed 4 screws, slipped out the hard drive and reinstalled it.

Still getting the same error message.

Could I take the hard disk out and put it into a USB ensclosure to see if it is working.
If I can use it like that, then it must be something else.

If you mean a hdd caddy then yes you could, but make sure you set usb as boot priority one in the bios.

How old is your laptop as it may still be in warranty

I bought the laptop 2nd hand over a year ago.

I have no proof of purchase from Dell.

You don't need proof of purchase, they'll just ask you who the registered owner is which will probably be the person you purchased it from.

Pop your service in here <a class="postlink" href="http://support.euro.dell.com/support/topics/topic.aspx/emea/shared/support/my_systems_info/en/details" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://support.euro.dell.com/support/to ... en/details</a> and if it's still I'm warmth give them a call

Is the drive making an unusual noise when trying to boot ? i.e. a regular clicking every second or so ?.

If not smething has corrupted your mbr (master boot record) or something has fucked your system32 folder.

I can fix it but would need physical access to it so i can link it to my pc and fix it.

What os are you running bud ?
