Martin Demichelis has been awarded Manchester City's first goal in their win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

The goal was initially put down as a Andreas Christensen own goal after he deflected in Nicolas Otamendi's effort, a rebound after Demichelis' initial shot was hacked out by a defender.

But UEFA representatives have since listened to a recording of the communication between match referee Clement Turpin and an additional assistant official, and the goal is now a first of the season for Demichelis.

A UEFA statement read: "The referee immediately reported that the goal should have been awarded to Martin Demichelis for his initial attempt on goal - and that the additional assistant referee had clearly indicated the ball had crossed the line after that shot.

"As it was too late to correct the identity of the scorer at that time, the audio recordings were reviewed this morning and confirmed the statement of the referee regarding the attribution of the goal to Demichelis. UEFA hereby confirms that decision."

Demichelis' goal levelled the Champions League game at 1-1 before Sergio Aguero's late penalty won it for City.

Hmm...

Would they have awarded us the goal(& game) today if Otemendi had scored from the clearance ? Not a fucking chance, they're trying to look like they're being fair the lying cheating bent cunts

They'd have been better off keeping quiet. Instead of people wondering if they're bent they've just confirmed it.
There's not a chance that first effort was being given. The ref had plenty of time to blow the whistle before the second phase.
Fucking charlatans the lot of them.

Match referee clement turpin??
Is somebody taking the piss??
I suppose his brother dick was the 5th official was he!!
He was 5 yards away and didn't see the ball over the line.
I'm staggered.

Why was it too late to give it to demi there and then when they can speak to each on the touch line in person

I would have waited the minute it would have taken to sort it

I didn't notice any body-language that might have gone along with the "...clearly indicated.." on the recording. Looked more like "...er, shit! It all happened too fast and I was admiring Kun's boots. Let's see what happens next"

I wonder if we could have this err, recording released to the public. It's not a state secret is it?
