Derby County - Rooney leaves with immediate effect (p69)

I was told, a few years ago, by a Forest ST holder, that Forest-Derby is the original "local derby", hence the name.
Over 100 years out!

Shrove Tuesday games began in the 18th century. The most famous took place in Derby when the young men of the parish of All Saints challenged those from nearby St Peter's. All men over the age of 18 took part, trying to force the ball from one parish into the other. In 1731 the mayor made an unsuccessful attempt to suppress the game, repeated every year by his successors until1848, when troops were called in. From then on the name 'local Derby' was attributed to any football match played with fierce partisanship between neighbouring clubs.

I preferred it when they just cut somebody's head off and kicked it between one village and the next. Football has gone to the dogs since.

Thanks for the great history lesson.

They still play a Shrovetide game every year in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Fucking bedlam, hundreds of hillbillies, farm boys and rugger buggers fighting and shoving each other for hours

Went to watch a couple of years ago, sister-in-law lives there and my nephew was 'playing'.

Absolute shite after 5 mins watching, it's rinse & repeat forever.

Still a good chance for Rooney the Relegator to stick. If Rotherham can win a couple of their four games in hand, and Birmingham and Coventry and get a win or two, then Wazzock could be facing division one football next season.

If he's not sacked, that is. Derby play Birmingham 24th April which could be an interesting day. He's averaging 1.23 points per match in 27 games in charge, 2 points from the last 15, and of course it is everyone's fault but his. Whereas Rotherham have 6 from last 15, Coventry 5 and Birmingham 4.

You're making a huge presumption there that he'd still be in a job come August.
