sjk - what do you make of the sweeping changes the other week to Dickov's back room team? What's the background to all that; is it just results or summat deeper? Has it been change for the better?
Was shocked they all got cleared out but Dickov remained (not advocating him getting sacked btw, just surprised he didn't go as well as is normally the case).
Baffling, tbh.
I thought that our CE got rid of them all in the hope Dickov would resign shortly afterwards but, as time has passed, I no longer see that as the reason.
I think he's got the CE's confidence tbh and although I've wanted Dickov out for a while now, I'm at least happy that there's been some changes. If we can get someone who's got tactical nous and isn't just another passionate, "give me 100% on the pitch and that's all I can ask of you" kinda guy then I'll be happy til the end of the season.
I feel for Duxbury (Reserve Team Coach) as he's a proper Oldham favourite but I couldn't give a fuck about Gerry "I'm a hard ****, but more of a ****" Taggart & the Fitness Coach (who's only job it seemed was to wander across the touchline with a fucking clipboard in his han), going. To me, they offered fuck all.
In an ideal world, the CE would have got rid of the lot and brought in Sean O'Driscoll and his staff, however, finances do not permit such a big change. So, I'd take someone like Frank Bunn, Steve Eyre or Brian Horton - people who seem more suited to the #2 role.
As for the question on whether it's been for the better. Well, we've only played 3 games since. Drew at Scunthorpe, lost at home to Crewe and then, of course, the win at Forest. I'll probably be able to give you a better answer in a month or two!
I'm just pleased we're already in the hat for the FA Cup 5th round, as we don't play Liverpool til the Sunday evening.
