Did Darwin Kill God?

The biggest problem most religious folk seem to have with evolution is not that it rules out the "possibility of a god" but that it does not make that possibility a requirement.

As for Christianity, evolution destroys Genesis, which is pretty much the basis for the whole belief. No Adam, no snake, no apple, no sin etc etc.

I missed the BBC program, but Im sure I'll watch it at some point on the net..... even if it is done by a "theologian".

Seriously how the fuck people are stupid enough to dedicate or at least let their lives be heavily influenced by shit that has little or no proof and what I personally would describe as absolutely fucking ridiculous is way beyond me. You can include god, allah, vishnu and any other made up piece of shit with that as well

I reckon in 100s of years as science develops further we will have most if not all the answers and people will look back and laugh at the absolutely pathetic ideas so many people have on religion. They will wonder how fucking stupid so many people were and what the fuck they were doing killing each other over blatant fictional bullshit.

People used to believe the world was flat and you'd fall off the end but we now know that is laughable, I think the same sort of thing will happen with religion

I'm an agnostic, but have seen how Faith enriches some people's lives. I'm not referring to Born Agains or such, merely the people that I know that have lived by their Faith from day one. Quietly and steadily, with the strength it has given them.

I fail to see why it should make you so angry FEH?

Unfortunately it's going to take a lot longer than 100 years for people to realise that religion is just superstitious nonsense. It's just too far seated in many people's lives. What really bugs me is that many people still use religion as an argument in subjects such as abortion, stem cell research, homosexuality, et al. I've no problem with arguments based on moral grounds but to base them on what the bible says (it contradicts itself constantly anyway) is bonkers IMO.

Oh, I know. :-)

It's just that I can't help but see that Faith, for some, is an integral part of their lives that enhances same. My mum in law is a Church going C of E. Always has been. It has brought her much security in the darkest days (her early widowhood) and it really does enhance her life. She is not the type that will get bolshie about her Faith and she is always "open" to other religions etc etc.

Who is to say that she is wrong? Or merely kowtowing to "superstition?" She doesn't see it like that at all. She sees it as a set of rules that makes more sense to her whole outlook on life than anything scientific.
