With mostly being down the other end of the pitch, and no replays, you don't get the full picture from the stands; although we had a pretty good view. Anyhow, I thought the first half hour was a bit like watching Barcelona at their best, in the way that we dominated; we are not a Barca clone. In fact, more and more, I see us emulating the style of Villarreal under Manuel the Merciless, but with something extra.

Having watched Barca a lot, I can't say last night was the best I've seen anyone play, in that opening period, but I felt like it was up there. Had we scored a few more goals, I'd have no hesitation in saying it was the best 30 minutes of football from a City side.

When they first went down to 10 men, particularly around their goal, I thought we were a bit careless with possession but we did settle into a good mode and made the extra man count.

For me, the only pressure applied generally came after the ref had stopped us in our tracks and awarded them a free kick, such was our dominance.

There is no team in world football that isn't susceptible to set pieces and we are no different and just sometimes, when you concede from one, its a case of well done to the opposition rather than trying to claim poor defending all the time. On another night, Zabba gets a free kick for a push in the back but he dint and we conceded.

That aside, i thought our control of the game was incredible and we made a very good team look really ordinary. Its men against boys right now, on and off the pitch (Pellegrini).

The ONLY criticism they got was justified... not for the decision to act... but the amateurish way in which the act was performed...

Along with Bill and a few others on here, I have watched City for a long time... and I have to say this is the BEST team we've EVER had in my lifetime. They even surpass the 68 team now!
 
In terms of the set piece defending, there is no answer really. The key is concentration, knowing what your role is, communication and wanting to get to the ball first. Every team will concede from set pieces here and there. Last night we did see quite a lot of scrappy defending from them though, and fortunately it delivers a key lesson ahead of a game against a side that will be set up to capitalise from every set piece they earn. It will be like playing Stoke at the Britannia playing Chelsea on Monday, they will make the game stop start and try to disrupt our rhythm as much as possible.

I literally said before Spuds won the corner they scored from... "Concentrate City, do not concede now - a clean sheet is important". Set pieces we struggled with and it is just a lack of concentration. Needed to dig in when we were under the cosh a bit and we played a bit sloppily at times. But the players acknowledge it and Kompany is spot on. Absolutely fantastic to have a captain so grounded.

I was annoyed that we conceded the corner because I felt we had done so by losing possession a bit cheaply not that long before. I think the actual goal they scored was one of those melees that you cannot completely legislate for. Have seen some replays of that and I'm still not sure what happened to Zabba.

That's exactly what they'll do. The irony of Jose moaning about West Ham was not lost on me. They'll try to disrupt us to contain us and they'll try to produce something on the break or as you say, from a set piece. It's a real pity we won't have Sergio running at their centre halves, but we have other strings to our bow these days, including our own set piece threat.

I've a feeling things are going to get hot in the Etihad. I am sure Manuel will be banging it into them to keep our composure. This won't be another 4-2, it could well be a 1-0. Pellegrini has a point to prove and scores to settle in this one.

Biggest game of the season. Destiny is calling. Bring them on.

We are only conceding too many, if the other team gets the same or more than us, currently they're not. I love it, football is all about goals, I can't see enough, even if the odd one or two in every six goes in our net, would I like 6-0 every game ? Yep probably, but do I dislike 4-2's and 6-3's ? No.

Opposition teams now have no idea whether to stick or twist, even the better ones, and that is fantastic for us, because we just know that we can keep playing this way.

The biggest thing we have now is not our attacking, its our desire to win, and win well. Its everywhere in the team.

Someone posted earlier today that Zab wasn't up to his normal self last night, which I thought was wrong, coming out of the game I considered him as one of my candidates for man of the match, I've watched a replay this afternoon, and I still think he was in out best 3 players yesterday. I suspect his average position on the pitch was further forward than Navas the winger, this to some is a negative, not for me, its a huge positive, it means the other teams left back, and left midfield are the ones having a shit night, in spurs case last night, a very shit night.

Can't wait for the next game myself, its the best time I've ever had watching City, and that includes the Bell, Lee, Summerbee years.
