It wasn't just Yaya tonight: too many players are underperforming and, whatever the manager is doing right or wrong, the lack of effort and failure to execute is inexcusable.
FWIW, I thought Pellegrini picked the wrong starting line-up and should have brought Fernando on the moment City scored but players have to run more and get more of their shots on target; they should not need a different manager in place to do both of those things.
I disagree because a blind man and his dog can see that's where the big problem lies. The only reason any manager coming in wouldn't drop toure, or at least adapt the formation to accommodate him, is if the club have bent over for toure during that infamous summer spell. If they did its a mistake which will cost dearly.
Toure is playing like his position is infallible.
You should know, being a City fan, that interim managers always do the opposite of what you think they will do.
Is there a sarcastic smiley we can use on bluemoon to prevent such confusion?
Tricky isn't it. I am a big believer in self-motivation and having players that do just that. The one thing an interim manager might do, is select the team differently, just because they are different. I think Pellegrini may be too stuck in his ways. That said, it is hard to pick any players that are truly reliable. This season, maybe Hart and Sagna. Dinho has been good a lot of the time but tonight he was conceding too many fouls - which he has form for - and being run around at times just as easily as some of his team mates.
As i say the formation needs to be adapted to accommodate him then, just play him somewhere further up if he MUST play...then all you have to worry about is slow attacks becoming even more pedestrian than they currently are, but at least the defence gets by as per sevilla. Didn't toure shift further up against sevilla?
Yes lol, clearly I need to do a better job :-)
It wasn't Yaya's night has to be the understatement of the year and it's only 6th Jan!!! Pellegrini deserves the sack for keeping him on the pitch, forget everything else. People are complaining that we didn't make the most of things when they went down to 10 men. They are failing to appreciate that with Yaya tonight we played all game with 10 men.
Yaya has been a colossal player for the club. He has been central to our success over the last few years and it's been a privilege to watch him. But I'm afraid time has overtaken him and he cant do the Yaya thing anymore.
Despite that Pellegrini he plays every minute unless injury intervenes.
