Fair enough Billy,
I can see how you would think I've contradicted myself with the golden gloves etc. And I've not even begun to explain all the reasons why I don't like Pellegrini's way of defending, so that doesn't help when I basically trashed it. (to be honest mate, I've been going through this for well over a year.) So yeah, I don't blame you for calling me out on that front. Unfortunately, I refuse to flog this dead horse in detail haha. But a preference to attacking football versus a preference to defensive football is an extreme simplification of each manager's tactical approach.
I totally agree with your highlighted line about Pep and I've been saying this to people when I speak of the ill, embarrassing way we, as a fanbase, are handling Guardiola's imminent arrival. It's going to be hilarious, the reactions of some of us when he hits his first obstacles. Evidence from Van Gaal and somewhat Potechinno suggests that Jeugo de Posicion can be a difficult philosophy to apply in England, (and I have no doubt that Pep will maintain his commitment to its principles.) Also, I've you said yourself, to put it very simply Pep has similar perceived weaknesses. This is because of his attacking nature... again simplification but there are elements of truth to it, at a glance. For example: Pep's Barcelona had been accused of lacking tempo at times, which makes perfect sense as I'm sure his team had to break down '10 men behind the ball' which is only natural. Pellers also takes stick for this. (Just one example.)
I, for one, will be happy to have our first world class manager. And I'll be taking notes, resisting my urges to knee jerk and enjoying the ride.
