Here is a question.Did anyone look at that team sheet before the game and feel confident of getting a result? Or did many,as i did, look at it and think ''Oh shit no!! This has the potential to be a complete and utter disaster!'' So on to the more important question. If WE as supposed non expert football fans can see that, why can't a vastly experienced manager, who's job of work it is and being paid bloody good money to see it,fail to do so?

Put me in the second camp. After 15 minutes it was clearly a car crash selection and formation. It was the rabbit in headlights refusal to respond that did my head in.

I though "shit" when I saw that team. I'm sure everyone did.

On the other hand think of all the games where you've felt the same and we've actually played well and won. The pre-match thread is classic for this.

You're more blaming the quality of players? The players Pellegrini brought to the club?
I think the last line makes it clear the manager is definitely responsible.

I've given up trying to predict his teams now, as he seems to pick names out of a hat rather than basing his decisions on sound footballing rationale.

His head was in Turin, topping the group is his immediate priority, reaching the quarter finals apparently is some sort of fucking football nirvana, at least if we fuck the league up he can claim to taking us further in the CL than the previous manager.

Its not the losing its the fucking abysmal team selection and formation that sticks in the craw and the fact he said he would pick the same formation and team again if he jumped in his time machine to the morning of the game v Liverpool.

There isnt a game or team picked where posters dont predict doom and fucking gloom yet we go on to win far far more than we ever lose lol.

That said, he got it so badly wrong against Liverpool.

The man is stubborn to the point of being pig headed and when that starts harming the team it has to be looked at. We have lost three games out of thirteen in the league already, two of them absolute humiliating hammerings that were down to his team selection and tactics,or lack of them. People go,''Oh we are in the QF's of the league cup and qualified in the champions league,so lets look at that shall we? We have not really played anyone in the league cup and had a fairly easy ride. In the champions league we have rode our luck. Seville should have beaten us at home and Borussia Mönchengladbach away too. We played ok against Juventus and were unlucky and had one good showing against Seville away.If we look at the league form Newcastle with better finishing would have been 3-0 down before the Sergio show and if that would have happened i doubt the latter would either.

He has the best squad in the premier league everybody says that from football fans to the pundits. For me they are not being coached or motivated to their potential and that is criminal. While we are going to lose games and nobody is invincible i don't feel this manager and his coaches are up to the job of moulding this squad into the top outfit they should be.

Of coarse we win more than we lose , our squad is brilliant compared with most of the premiership. You obviously think Pellers is doing a good job. I believe most reasonable managers would have won us a title with this squad (I know this can not be proven). What I do see at the moment is a team playing very inconsistently and not week to week, actually within a game we can be devastating and rubbish.

What I don't see week in is a team that is pressing with a hunger to win the title moving the ball quickly. FFS we have struggled against Norwich and Villa one of which has 5 points. We have lost two games 4-1. I wasn't at the Newcastle game but was told we were woeful for 45 minutes. IMO it is the managers job to pick the right team, think about tactics and get the team up for every game from the first minute. I don't see any of this at the moment.

Arsenal and Utd were knocked out of the League Cup by lesser teams. We have been beaten by them before. You have t win those games when your focus is on bigger games so it does count for something.

The season has been good to date, but overall there are two phases

1) Start of the season at full strength.

2) The last 6 weeks where we have lost key players and we've ticked over.

That should be encouraging as it shows that there's a clear explanation, but it relies on getting those key players back.

I'm not overly worried about Kompany, because Otamendi has settled in really well, but Silva is a worry.
