So would you prefer to not send kids on loan and keep them on the bench, playing bit-part garbage minutes, or playing every week and gaining experience? And no attempt whatsoever to avoid any of them or use young players in lesser or dead games to help take the strain. So much so that we have pretty much no idea which of our young players can do any kind of job in any kind of game in spite of many of them being at a reasonable stage in their development to have been given run outs for the past year more. Indeed the ones he is picking now are further away from tirst team level than some of the ones he has loaned out, because he has no option other than to loan them out, because he has no fucking idea whether he can use them or not because he has never even given them FIVE MINUTES between them in total.
It's 100% his fucking fault the squad is struggling. If Ferguson was in charge we would have ten more first team players able to step in for emergencies. Now he may have no choice but to play kids in the Champions League & he's loaned out better ones. Predicted months ago by a bunch of us fans, misjudged by our manager. We were right, he was wrong. He gets paid a fucking fortune to get it right.
Piss poor management
I think that going out on loan accomplishes your overarching goal of seeing what standard they are at, while simultaneously gaining first team experience. To me, the academy is more likely to develop tons of good players who may not be good enough for city, but good enough to be sold for 5-15 million. Don't get me wrong, we will have a gems come through and make the team, but I don't believe that will be the norm. And trust me, I would love to be surprised, but that is the case of most big time clubs. Kelechi being one, which is why he is getting much more playing time this year.
