flat earth & I'm a c*nt (says @ LongsightM13)
Mine was in for a service yesterday so I relied on public transport to get me back home and back to the garage
The bus was pretty prompt and it was a flat £3 fare, although I really should apply for my FOC Bus pass
But when on the bus I was thinking, could I live without a car, or how more inconvenient would my life be!

Do any Bluemooners not have access to a car, or decided not to run one anymore?
Where do you live, town centre, in a large urbanisation or rural and how much extra work is it not having one?

I have access to a car but hate driving. Go most places on my bike . The bus pass is a golden ticket i think . Especially as you can get all you food delivered by a supermarket for 2 quid . The roads are full of cunts. I wouldn't have a car for free

hi andy if your plans to reduce every speed limit by 10 mph come in we'll all be on that bus

You risk your life by riding a bike on roads full of cunts!
I do get it though

I am thinking about giving up my car now i cant get out much, i have just insured it , can i get a refund if i get rid of the car now ? I still can get out to my drs and dentist and to the vets, pretty much it . When i broke my shoulder i couldnt drive for nearly a year as it wouldnt heal so the insurance would be invalid and that was a real pain in the arse . Cant use public transport for mobility, pain and exhaustion reasons, so taxi would be the only other option

Have to make a decision

If you've only insured it, within the last 14 days, you're entitled to a full refund

But you should be able to claim most back anyway so long as you haven't made a claim

Please tell me this isn't true. You have been at home in the freezing cold with no boiler/ heating. But you are not sure if you need to get rid of a car . Get rid of it and get your heating sorted. If this was my mother or father I would go mad

I haven't owned a car since 2004. I chose to live in a town centre so everywhere is within walking distance.
I'm also 5 minutes walk from a mainline railway station for when I need to travel further afield.
I'm retired railway staff so keep my free train travel for life, which sort of helps.
I despise driving and always used to feel ripped off every time I took my car in for repair or servicing, so don't miss it at all.

I had a Toyota Avensis, but as soon as i moved close to Manchesters Northern Quarter back in 2019, i got shut of it, because i simply wasn't using it ..... to be honest i've barely missed it, and I'm always out on short city breaks somewhere or other....but living in the city centre area is handy for everything i need ..... i am two years retired though, so i don't need to worry about travelling to work any more.

Thanks , i insured it in dec, it is something to think about . The car is 2012 and in great condition so i will google around and see what the going price is

Sell it and sort your heating out or you will be dead in 12 months. And I say that to be brutal. I would say the same thing to my mum and dad . No point in having a car on the driveway if you're frozen to death in the house. It really isn't rocket science

Passed my test in 2006 at 20 years old. Think my insurance quote on a 206 was 2.5k a year, so I waited until I was 21 to buy a car when the insurance dropped to 1.5k a year. I'd kinda lost interest in driving in the time I waited from passing my test to owning a car! Had it 3 years then sold it and put the insurance money towards a house deposit

I didn't drive in 15 years or so. I live in the city centre so everything I've got is right here, and friends tend to come into town to socialize so i see them here on my doorstep. If I need a lift I get an uber

That said i use my missus' car these days for getting to 5 a side football midweek. I used to walk or tram it. It helps a bit to have a car but if I didn't have access to hers it wouldn't bother me at all
