Do the red scouse want it more than us?

Anfield was bouncing when we were there but I don't remember hearing anything about an amazing atmosphere there for other games.

Do they want it more than us ? Do they fuck.

It's just a convenient cliche to bandy about, believed only by tabloid reading halfwits.

Like someone else said it's ability and professionalism that wins you the title

Dave, I'm amazed you don't find some of the atmospheres we've had this season worrying. We have been challenging for a title and it has been like a morgue at times. People can turn up late, go home early, sit in total silence, whatever, they have paid for their tickets they can do what they like. But it doesn't help the team at all when it's quiet and a noisy crowd can help drag teams through difficult moments. Anyway we've agreed with each other before that it isn't the supporters job to just blindly praise everything but to raise concerns if they have them so I'm not really sure what your gripe is.

No gripe with you lancet, I respect you, and it has been quiet at times, but that's just how it is in modern football. It won't be fully rectified until they stick the two singing ends together. Last night was pretty noisy at times but the first 20 minutes were dogged with two ends singing two songs constantly. It's never been the cauldron of noise some say, but we get up for it as a crowd when necessary. It doesn't mean city have shit fans, or have become overrun with day trippers, or don't care, or all the other stuff I keep reading. It's just been a bit of a nervy, stop start season and the fans have reflected that at times.

It's not just that in isolation, though, it just seems that everyone on here has a gripe at the moment, and everyone is pointing the finger of blame at everyone else. I've read this week that our players aren't committed enough, that we don't have winner or leaders, I've read that the manager cost us the title, that the captain cost us the title, that our set pieces cost us the title, that our players aren't hungry, our fans don't care, we need to ship out half the squad, get rid of our Director of Football. Everything.

It's all shite. The club is healthier than it's ever been. But you come on here and everyone's riddled with self-doubt, a lack of confidence, introspection, self fucking loathing. 'Do Liverpool want this more than us'? My fucking arse. Go and tell zab or vinny or joe or Silva or the rest of the squad that that's the case. It's just hyperbole, media shite. It isn't about "wanting it", it's about having the ability and professionalism to see the job through. And riding your luck, as Liverpool have for weeks now.

I know football grounds in the Prem are not what they used to be but it has just been incredibly flat at our ground this season even by modern standards, as bad as I can ever remember. Our form at home has been good (as usual these days) but particularly in that Sunderland game, when the title was still right up for grabs, the team looked flat and the crowd was flat and I think those two things go hand in hand to some extent. It's nothing to do with self loathing but if that is the way it is now (the team having to play in virtual silence when if we win our games in hand we will be 1 point behind top place going into the last three weeks of the season) then I think we will genuinely be at a slight disadvantage in any future run in. As far as the team are concerned, well obviously there are some players that nobody would ever question in terms of desire but I think quite often this season the team have looked a bit flat, particularly against weaker teams and I do honestly believe there is a bit of a problem with us underestimating the opposition at times, both our management team and the players. That's not me just churning out media shite, that's just what I feel from watching our matches. There is a fine line between doing a professional job by winning games without having to play at full throttle and taking liberties and at times I believe we have misjudged it. All of that said, this season has (imo) been better than last season, we have won a trophy, we have stayed in the title race till late April, we will probably get more points and the football has generally been better to watch. I think Pellegrini will have learnt a lot from his first season in England and as long as he has then I am very optimistic about next season.

I've watched quite a few games at their place recently where the atmosphere has sounded pretty good not just the game against us. Anfield has been pretty quiet in recent years but since it has dawned on them that they are genuinely in with a shout of the title, the fans there have got noticeably much noisier which is only what I would have expected. You don't agree, that's fair enough but that's what I feel I have witnessed, admittedly just from watching their games on TV. From attending our home games, as we have hit the run in, I think our crowd got quieter. Again, only what I feel I have witnessed, I accept that that might just be my perception of things and that my perception may be wrong, The Etihad may be bouncing every week while Anfield is like a morgue.

I agree with you fella, and I know it's a bit "left-field" but some of it is down to style of football, imo.

We are quite ponderous and slow in our build up whereas the scousers are swift and attack with pace. That lifts crowds and gets them on the edge of their seat and helps with atmosphere.

More Bluemoon introspection just what we need

This from the man who banned himself after moaning almost daily that the club was in ruins as we won the league?

I'm sure there are many factors and that could well be one of them. But then the last few matches I have watched at Anfield, there isn't an empty seat before kick off, they're all singing YNWA and waving their flags whereas at our place the ground has been a third empty at kick off. People can kid themselves that it's all media bullshit but that really is the way it has looked to me in recent weeks and I take no pleasure in making those observations and I certainly have no axe to grind. I find it pretty astonishing that anyone on here would particularly criticise someone for starting a thread that basically questions whether their fans want it more than ours because if we stop looking at it through our blue tinted specs I'd say it is a perfectly reasonable question to ask under the circumstances.

I can't shake the feeling that the Dippers will win their next three because its their one and only chance at a title. Does it mean more to them than it does to us? They're like us in 2012. I include the players in this.

What gives you that idea?

I'd reckon they do. I thought our players would be right up for it against Sunderland and West Brom, but they just appeared flat. Don't know what's going on, but there's no sense of urgency about us, and when Silva went off the other night we were just awful. It's all a bit strange.

Yes the crushing defeat to West Brom really set us back!

What the hell is going on! We beat them 3-1, what more do you want?
Oh, for fuck sake. So it IS all about the result then? Personally I'd expect a team who are in a fight for the league title to show more.

Bollocks. 20 odd shots and 70% possession.

People some shit on this forum these days.

The problem is that you have all been fucking spoilt.

But they are having an Incredible run in an incredible season, totally out of the blue after years of failure. This is their 98-99 season, whereas for us we expect to be challenging for the title and are slightly flat that it seems to have nearly gone. If you go on their forum there's a huge thread about their atmosphere which mirrors the dozens you get on here: no singing, all old men, what happened to the Kop passion etc. it's only the last half dozen games which have seen them lift it. We would have done the same if it were us, like in 99 when we went on that run to the playoffs, and it felt like the club were rising from the dead.

And the thread questions whether the fans and the players 'want it'. It's the sort of clichéd sentiment which irks me, a bit like all this 'playing for the shirt' nonsense. If Liverpool 'want it' too much against Chelsea nerves can get the better of them of and them blow it. I'm sure they are all desperate to win the title, but I think our lads are too.
