For me age brings experience and wisdom. As a result since about 2000 I have really ceased to give a toss. As the song says you don't know what you have 'till its gone.... well in the 90's England were a tournament semi finals team. Since then as well as the proliferation of over rated players from certain clubs that were hyped way beyond their talents meant we've been led up the garden path and let down far too often. The press know it but there were too many newspaper sales in hyping us up at tournaments so too many people join in with their little flags of St George on their car windows and flags on their houses - just awful really. Then pubs with big screens and loudmouth know alls kicking off when a bang average team struggles - so I long since just restricted my activities to City - its where I started in the 60's and where I am happiest - even during some of the bad times.

One of the things that really pisses me off about the England team is the people who watch them on telly and it's the only football they ever watch. They think they're fucking experts on it and just spout whatever fucking nonsense they hear come out of the pundits.

Not since I was a kid - England team of the late 70s when Tueart Barnes Channon were still in place was the last time I cared - the 80s was a watershed when bang average rag players started getting caps just because of who they played for - Gary Bailey Mike Duxbury Mike fricking Phelan, and carries on Frazier Campbell Jesse Lingard Phil Duncan Edwards Jones Mike Smallthing - it became a joke that stopped being funny a long time ago

Used to. Not anymore and why should I? Fact is, the FA have done nothing to halt the terminal decline of the national team seen over the past twenty years. No grass roots changes favouring teaching kids to retain ball and not just hoof it and hope.
During the last World Cup England were the third worst passing team. Now you think that somebody somewhere within the FA would flag that as being simply unacceptable and hold an inquiry. They didn't. Until they start to impliment necessary changes, the national team will continue to be the joke team we are viewed to be in the footballing world. As the Spanish press said during Euros, "The stench of defeat follows another England team to another tornament.
As a side note. Just imagine where the national side would be now if Brian Clough had a shot at being England manager? As it is, we've got Gareth chuffing Southgate. Go figure.

The last time I was fully behind the England team was Euro 96. It's hard to invest emotionally in a team when it consists of players you actually dislike.

Well he did have a shot at being manager, but ironically the FA didnt like the whiff of the snidey side of the way he went out about his business. The same FA, who gave Fat Sam the job, despite the whiff of the snidey side etc. The irony.
