Do you give a toss about England?

Here I am!

Sorry - my Nan passed away today - so right now. I don't care about much!

Anyhow. Yes. England for sure I fully support. Couldn't give a fuck if a player is playing I don't rate, or plays for a rival club etc. It's the managers decision - let him pick and get behind them. we stick with our football team when there shit. Why not our national team. Predictable stuff from me I know. Just my view.

Sorry to hear about your Nan mate.

I'm similar to yourself. I care more about City but I get behind England as well. The Rooney thing does my head in but I didn't stop caring about City when pellegrini picked Bony over Iheanacho last season.

I dont see "England"when they play, i see London FC.
Couldn't give a shit if they win, infact i probably enjoy it more when they lose. Nothing funnier than fat blokes with their St George cross facepaint ruined by their tears after another battering in a tournament.

I've been that little kid during Euro 96' waving his St George flag, going to a few England matches, and as an adult I've been abroad watching the national team.
But I've also played the game and when you see the poor standard of facilities and coaching opportunities at the grassroots level here in this country it really demotivated me to have an interest.
For me it's clear to see the team is chosen specifically for the profile of the game, its a TV audience pleaser.
There are many English players in lower leagues right now who would fight for their lives to play at Wembley for just one chance wearing that shirt.
They'd fucking kill for it yet because they are not high profile, don't have certain agents, and don't play for certain clubs they aren't even considered.

I've seen the coaching standards at grassroots level over in Spain with my own eyes as my dad's lived over there now for a long time and its obvious to see why they produce far better players.

When The FArce start funding more coaching opportunities, facilities, and players who WANT to play for the team are picked rather than rich Premier league players who only appear to continue their sponsorship obligations then we will see good football.
Sadly this won't happen any time soon as so much money is being made and the needed coaching improvements would take 20/30yrs to notice.

Speaks volumes when a club like City had to literally build their own coaching system, a full on super academy to develop players as the country that the club is based in is so fucking inept at player development.

Fuck them.

No, I'm not that bothered about England - but then, as I'm Scottish, you wouldn't expect me to.

Mind you, Scotland are fairly dire too, so I'm not that bothered about them either.

Can't wait for the international break to be over....

I'd say I go further than not giving a toss about the national team... I actually want them to lose. In a match between England & a Satan's XI, I'd be rooting for Beelzebub's lot.

This isn't a conscious decision that I've made, it's just something that's happened over time. I think it was the whole "Golden Generation" bollocks that started it.

It's not cos I'm not patriotic either. I love seeing the cricket and rugby teams doing well and will always root for English athletes in other sports.

Sorry to hear about your loss mate

I'm quite young compared to most here so perhaps that's why I have lasted longer in caring about the national team; but after euro 2016 I've had enough to be honest. I can't get excited for England anymore really, mistakes are repeated over and over again and nothing is ever done to remedy the problems; bad (McLaren, Hodgson) or just average managers (Eriksson, Allardyce) are continually appointed, obsession with the manager being English also drives me mad; how on earth can Bruce or Pardew be considered over someone like Mancini?

Players constantly picked because of the club they play for instead of picking players based on fitting a tactical system (see euro 2016) and individuals being witch-hunted drivers me nuts

I will still watch the major tournaments but I'm done obsessing over qualifiers and friendlies

Well put.. Wembley, the FA and the national team are like so many things in this country, london-centric. The national stadium should have been in the midlands, the FA are, and have always been, thoroughly incompetent, completely unfit for purpose. For me the international breaks are a pain in the arse that get in the way of real football

Who are the modern En-ger-lund fans? I ask as I was one of about 15,000 England fans in a 100,000 crowd when we played Scotland in 1979. Scotch flowed as John Wark put them ahead but dried up as we won 3-1.
Two years later the Scottish fans were banned IIRC, so the split was around 50/50. Many of the current fans are old enough to have been attending games in the late 70s so where were they?
