the post by the guy who works at city as a steward? He said he'd been told by his supervisor at the stewards meeting that our owners hand bought the stadium and the super casino site for £300 million.(might have been Sports City as well?) Does anyone remember what the name of the thread was and where that post might be in that thread? Thanks if you can help.

Interesting news from today. (see below)

I'm 95% sure our new owners will be taking this proposal forward. There is no way Manchester city coucil could have got this far so quickly without the involvement of ADUG. The City Council have been in discussions with ADUG for months apparently. It's only been a year since the super casno proposal was thrown out and now we are on the verge of a major announcemant regarding the development of the super casino site, sports city and may be COMS. No British property developer would have been able to raise the funds needed to carry this project forward in the current economic climate, so this has ADUG's involvement written all over it. They have the money and the expertise to move this proposal forward.

This was announced today by Eddie Smith, chief executive of New East Manchester

New East Manchester: Proposals for casino site coming in spring
By Simon Binns

Regeneration company New East Manchester has promised “hundreds of millions of pounds” will be invested in the area during 2009.

Eddie Smith, chief executive of New East Manchester, said this year would see the start of some major projects bringing “very significant levels” of public and private sector investment to east Manchester.

This would include the site intended for a regional casino, which will be replaced with something creating “thousands of jobs,” he said.

Smith said “exciting” proposals for the site would be announced in spring.

“The scale of the development planned is anticipated to be very significant,” he said, “with investment of hundreds of millions of pounds, bringing the potential for thousands of new jobs.”

“Greggs will have their new £16m North West headquarters and bakery in Openshaw fully operational by March, reinforcing the security of 300 east Manchester jobs.

“Work will also be starting in early summer on the new £40m Openshaw district centre, with a Morrisons supermarket, shops, offices and a new health and fitness centre that together are expected to create 750 new jobs.

“Manchester Settlement’s new £2.2m community centre, The New Roundhouse, will also open nearby this year.”

Construction work will also start this year on extending Greater Manchester’s Metrolink tram system, including investment of more than £200m on two new lines through east Manchester.

Smith also cited The East Manchester Academy, a £31.5m project just underway in Beswick which aims to be a centre of excellence for everything relating to the built environment. It will also provide a new district library for the east Manchester community.

Why do you always get one dickhead on every thread? Jog on!

the guy who posted it was called Trigger (the Steward) and I was making a reference to only fools and horses.

Sincere apologies. Thought you were having a pop. Perhaps you could have made that a bit clearer. Many thanks for the info.

To be fair the Bernstein/Council and ADUG have had lots of meetings both before and after the takeover so the writing is on the wall for this one.

ADUG thinks in a bigger scale than we are used to, that´s all..I recall reading a report by the New East Manchester chief that mentioned that they where looking at projects together with ADUG. I think it might still be on their website.

£300m plan for Sportcity
Paul R Taylor
30/ 9/2008

DEVELOPERS are wanted to bankroll the £300m transformation of Sportcity in Manchester.

Regeneration chiefs want someone prepared to finance and build a world-class leisure facility on part of the site which was earmarked for a doomed supercasino.

As revealed in the M.E.N. earlier this month, the new mega-rich owners of Manchester City are rumoured to be interested in the 38-acre site.

The Abu Dhabi Group, who completed their takeover last week, could also buy the council-owned City of Manchester Stadium itself.

Manchester council and regeneration body New East Manchester are inviting proposals from developers, but have stressed the need for the 'highest standards' of architecture and design.

If the development goes ahead, Sportcity will become one of the biggest urban visitor destinations in Europe.

It could raise more than £500m for the city's economy in its first 10 years.

Council leader Sir Richard Leese said: "This site offers the opportunity to develop a visitor attraction that will be both nationally and internationally significant. It is a prime location just one and a half miles east of the city centre.

Proposals

"We are looking for proposals that would generate about three million additional visitors to Sportcity each year.

"It is also important that the proposals show the intention to deliver the highest standards . . . to create a high-quality environment that will complement and enhance existing facilities."

Manchester won a national competition to host Britain's first supercasino, which would have created 3,000 jobs.

But the idea was defeated in the House of Lords and Gordon Brown dropped the idea after taking over at Number 10.

A ministerial task force was charged with coming up with an alternative scheme.

The council has said only a huge leisure facility could bring as many jobs as the casino and rejected other options including a retail development, homes, industrial uses, offices and a business park.

Eddie Smith, New East Manchester's chief executive, said: "This piece of land is at the heart of one of the most important regeneration areas in Britain.

"This is a unique opportunity to create a world class tourist attraction. We look forward to receiving some very ambitious and creative proposals."

Sportcity is also home to the Velodrome and officials from Manchester Leisure and New East Manchester are currently developing proposals for a major indoor BMX facility.

The Abu Dhabi Group's £200m takeover has made City officially the richest football club in the world. In charge is Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, whose family is worth an estimated £560bn.

no problem mate!

Should be exciting to see what is proposed next to the stadium. I'm sure what ever is built will be linked to the stadium by a walkway. Exciting times ahead.

I doubt that very much.

I think so. Why not? That fact that you should/will be able to walk straight from COMS to the new proposal via a walkway will be verry much in thre minds of ADUG, MCC and the architects.
unless you know different of course?

hopefully the proposal will be to build loads of old terraced houses, make the place feel more like maine road.

maybe the walkway could link a replica dilapidated social club to the ground as well?

I've posted on here before, months ago, about the development plans for the Eastlands area. Leisure and sport facilities are a relatively minor part of what was proposed. As far as I know, the same people are involved and they have very different interests.

Yes it was me (see link below), not been given any more information yet, but will continue to post anything that may be of interest!

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=91258" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/forum/vi ... =1&t=91258</a>

At the Forest game we were told that we have had to change a couple of the reserves games from Sportcity to Ewan Fields (Hyde United) because of floodlight failure. The council had been unable to fix the problem and when City offered the services of their own electricians the council turned them down !!

I`ve heard that part of the future development is as said, casino, coms, and a hotel.***** star too :)

That`ll be a good place to house our newest galacticos prior to finding them new homes in Hale Barns....

I say Hale Barns because you don`t want them mixing with the likes of Rag players over in Wilmslow ;)

Prestbury is rag and wag central. With apologies to Mark Hughes of course [cough].

Would anybody (here we go again) ITK like to post some information on the proposal. Perhaps a bit more detail than the usual, there is going to be a casino, hotel, etc. Thanks. No WUM's please.

Trigger.

Can you find or recap on that post where you stated a supervisor had told you City's owners hand bought COMS and the Super Casino site for £300mill. Is that still correct to the best of your knowledge? So help you God.

From what I understand, the council still own COMS and the SportCity site. I was thinking about this today actually, why hasn't it been done already? If we're doing business Arab-style, we should have already started building the new stuff by now!!!!
