Apparently in America (and then inevitably here) academics want an alternative name for the "Anglo Saxon" period because of its racial use in "white Anglo-Saxon protestant".
It may not be a bad idea as it masks our multi-racial history.

Jess Sessions used the term Anglo-American in a speech that had a pretty clear subliminal message re race and he got a lot of grief for it. It does not have that same meaning here.
