'Anonymous' author warns that Trump 'will not exit quietly,' even if defeated or impeached

The anonymous official who has written a scathing account of the presidency of Donald Trump suggests the president might refuse to leave office even if convicted in impeachment hearings or defeated narrowly in the 2020 election – and says Trump is preparing his followers to see either outcome as a “coup” that could warrant resistance.

“He will not exit quietly – or easily,” the author, self-described as a senior administration official, writes in A Warning, a book that builds on an explosive op-ed by the same unnamed author last year. USA TODAY obtained an early copy of the book.

“It is why at many turns he suggests ‘coups’ are afoot and a ‘civil war’ is in the offing. He is already seeding the narrative for his followers – a narrative that could end tragically.”

He's the biggest traitor in US history and that includes Benedict Arnold.
The damage he has already done is incalculable and there will be ramifications for decades.

Widely believed to be Rex Tilerson or John Kelly as per the comments from Nikki Haley.

He knows that many of the protections afforded to him whilst in office won’t be there once he leaves.

Precisely and why he will go if convicted not without causing a shit storm on his exit. He knows he would die in prison

Whether the impeachment succeeds with ousting him the damage has already being done this is all about showing those lovely American folk what a great guy they have as President. Trump will become even more toxic than he already is to the Republicans its just a question of when they decide to pull the trigger on him whether its now or afterwards the collateral damage will be too much take.

In the court of public opinion, I seriously think this impeachment could go either way. I just don't think the majority of American people have the intellectual capacity to be objective enough to see/believe the evidence in front of them.

It's hardly surprising given that 7% of them believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows, and 48% of them have no idea where chocolate milk comes from despite the clue being in the name, and 99% of those surveyed watch Fox News (I made that last one up, but you wouldn't be surprised if it were true).

Impeachment trial is live now (i'm watching CNN via Youtube).

Strong opening statement by Mr Schiff.
At work, so I'll have to play catch up later.

Major take away from the opening statement (from The Independent - UK):

"This is what we believe the testimony will show — both as to the President's conduct and as to his obstruction of Congress. The issue that we confront is the one posed by the President's Acting Chief of Staff when he challenged Americans to "get over it." If we find that the President of the United States abused his power and invited foreign interference in our elections, or if he sought to condition, coerce, extort, or bribe an ally into conducting investigations to aid his reelection campaign and did so by withholding official acts — a White House meeting or hundreds of millions of dollars of needed military aid — must we simply "get over it?" Is that what Americans should now expect from their president? If this is not impeachable conduct, what is? Does the oath of office itself -- requiring that our laws be faithfully executed, that our president defend a constitution that balances the powers of its branches, setting ambition against ambition so that we become no monarchy -- still have meaning?"
