Donald Trump

The Framers weren’t expecting cunts like McConnell and Graham.

Do you agree then that after this the Americans might consider the process somewhat elitist and maybe treat all citizens the same regarding the law. I’m still also quite annoyed that most presidents seem to get at least the odd assassination attempt but this shit bag of a bloke hasn’t had even a egg thrown at him.

So in theory he could shoot someone or kill someone pissed while driving and the republicans could keep him in his job and out of jail?

In theory. One would think that the American people would demand his head and that voting to keep him in office would be political suicide. The opposite is true now.

But this is why I've said over and over and over again that this is a personality cult. It's not blue v red, conservatives vs liberals, Reps vs Dems. It's pro-Trump vs anti-Trump.

The Framers never expected elected representatives to put party over country.

@blueinsa's point I think is that since this is where politics has now gotten to, impeachment itself is pointless. But that presumes that this is where politics will always be, or always has been. The latter is wrong for sure and I doubt the former will be either.

I'm not scrapping the Constitution because of this guy. This is why I will vote for whomever runs against him. And I voted for Romney (to my chagrin, he turned into a milquetoast).

If I have this wrong please tell me as I don’t follow American politics so am not up on their political system so - surely if someone has committed a crime It should be dealt with by the law and a trial with non partisan people deciding on the verdict. It seems pretty mad that if the Potus Has been accused of breaking the law he gets saved by members of his own party or gets condemned by members of the opposition.

Going by the split of the vote it seems obvious not many are voting on integrity and it’s just a political farce.
Yep. It's mental.

I’m sorry mate I see why you wanted this process to happen but I can’t for the life of me see how in 2019 you wouldn’t want to change it. If the evidence is there he should be arrested and prosecuted as per the law of the Land like any other citizen. Relying on the decency of politicians is sheer madness.

It’s like Sergio getting pulled for drink driving and asking the attendees of the etihad if he should be banged up.

67/100 in the Senate is just never going to happen now or in the future in my opinion but the reason it’s such a high figure is to stop partisan political impeachments.

Cool.

Back to Trump because he isn't about to be wholesale impeached is he nor is he about to be convicted and yes, what he has done is worse than what Nixon did but I'm saying this current process is doing sweet fuck all in reality.

That is all!

As an aside, I'm actually not sure on balance what Trump has done as President (what we know of so far) is worse than what Nixon did. I know an awful lot about Nixon -- I actually collect Watergate memorabilia -- and he was far craftier than Trump and had a long list of criminal thugs working for him for years to commit very clear crimes that would help Nixon both financially and politically. But the full story on Trump isn't written yet either.

That's all fair, I just don't see how pragmatically it would work. Plus a constitutional change like that would require a substantial amount of Congressional support (would it have to be an Amendment? I don't know -- and that requires 2/3rds support from state legislatures too) and I doubt if Congress would take kindly to having its power to remove a President for high crimes and misdemeanors (among other things) abrogated.

Recall that in the criminal cases for those Presidential aides involved in illegal activities, in both Nixon's and Trump's case, both were named in indictments as "unindicted co-conspirators."

Please vote him out next time or just get the CIA to put a skateboard at the top of his stairs:-)

Some of these argument are mind-boggling to me.

"Hey, sir, we think we know who was raping your sister."

"Who?"

"That man over there. We have a bunch of evidence, and he's actually even admitted that he did it, but there's not much we can do about it."

"Wait. Why not?"

"Well, see, we have to wait four years before we can prosecute him. And then actually we don't. We ask the people to decide whether he should be removed from his job. not for raping her, but based in whether he was any good at his job."

"What about my sister?"

"Oh. Well, I guess he's free to keep raping her as often as he likes because there's nothing we can do about it."
Trust foggy to come up with the dumbest analogies :)
