And my take on Blueinsa’s substantive point is that their was integrity in the senate then. Not necessarily with Nixon.He had "a bit of integrity"? Are you serious?
He was going to be wholesale impeached and convicted, that's why he resigned. Barry Goldwater himself told the President the night before he resigned that he thought Nixon had only four very firm votes in the Senate for him.
Integrity may be overstretching it, but at least the Republicans then saw that public opinion was against them and chose to do something about it.
Nowadays the way seems to be denial and brazen it out.
