Donald Trump

Zero credibility around the world. Imagine what will happen next time they try to insist to a repressive regime about the merits of democracy.
Like our own great democracy they have no qualms about holding others to a much higher standard than our own, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Was never happening and he won’t be punished for any of his actions as President, other than he’ll never get the donations to run again with the same level of support, so he’s finished as a realistic candidate. He’ll need what grass roots dollars he does raise for other things, not a full bore campaign. He’ll still be a voice though it’s truncated too without his internet platforms, nor is the regular media like to give him the coverage he needs to rebuild his voice. Now the right thing is to write a book and give speeches and charge a mint, like any rock star with a cultish, rabid following. But his debts and the incoming lawsuits will overwhelm his income-generating abilities, so he’ll need to sell assets. We don’t know the true state of his finances though — how leveraged ARE those assets? Which brings us to what anyone who wants to see him punished for crimes should be paying attention to — the state of NY case re: tax, bank and insurance fraud.
Spot on. The republicans were always going to fence sit /close ranks because too many of them (and the party) would be damaged by a guilty verdict.

The American Constitution has utterly failed. If anyone tried what daft Donald (no, not that one) did here, he’d have been sent marching and wouldn’t be able to form a government again.

The so called greatest republic in the world is on its arse.

Well, let’s put this in context: the Constitution didn’t fail — those elected to uphold it did, and the bigger victory is the one the voters won on Nov 4. I suppose you could say that the Constitution is only as good as those who uphold it, and ultimately that’s the people, though through their elected representatives. The greatest republic in the world elected a madman cult leader, discovered it made a mistake, and in the process one of its two parties is likely to destroy itself, and somehow I suspect at least some positive change will come out of this. We all want Trump’s head, I know — and in some way shape or form we’re going to get it, whether it’s actually the heads of his enablers (not all but some), a long period of one-party dominance in DC that forces a changed Republican Party or a conviction on one of Trump’s many other crimes (remember OJ). And you know, we did have a civil war once and somehow survived 150-plus years intact thereafter. So we look a fright, but I’m not sure we really are one — yet. I think the question is — what would these Republicans have done had the insurrection been successful, and some of their membership were killed, or Pence was? I don’t want to know, but the solution if you’re worried is vote very single one of the motherfuckers out, or as many as possible. Gerrymandering doesn’t work as well if there’s a better alternative to the candidate/party the gerrymandering supports.
