How can you even fanthom a "legal system" like the one in the US to work for anyone else than some poor small time criminal sod that can be utilized as a quasi slave worker trough forced labor in some of the more "less exlusive/luxurious" jails?
The people can actually create laws per referendum ... in their state only. For federal laws they need to vote in some representative, who can propose and vote laws in the house of representatives. After a lenghty process, often involving much fillibustering and reshaping, the law proposol is dutifully moved to the senate where the former form of scrutiny can repeat itself possibly sending the whole law proposel trough a few of such cycles until it ultimatly is made a law.
Once thats lenghty process is finished trough much decorum and and procedure having taken the attention of much of the US political class for often a lenghty time, the Supreme court takes it in, has a good laugh at it, wipes its ass from it and reshapes the whole thing to whatever sureall interpretation that is of their desire based on partisan loyalty while some also get themselves royally bribed. Who rules he US? Why the Supreme court does afcourse! law ... due process ... nohing matters when our holy gavel has spoken for we merely "appointed for life" persons that require no prior legal experience per sé ARE the law! Or Atleast 5 out of 9 is enough for it...
And i mean, history has it that the supreme court had a fair hand in causing the American civil war some 160 years back. Had to rule ofcourse that southern law should supercede northern one "on their own territory" should a slave run to a free state. And no sooner than blacks being enfranchsid in the south to vote the supreme court was there to support rulings in the south that limited those who were eligble to vote not on race, but on all things not direcctly slave related that would most certaintly happen to pertain to blacks. And so the path for southern apartheid was set.
